Fords Need Not Apply

I love my Ram just because, but I respect that others like Fords and have no problem with it. But I hear that even a lot of Ford fans hate the 6.0L engines and think of going back to 7.3s or buying other trucks. In my opinion, it is sad to see one of the Big Three take a wrong step, it is a lot more fun to see competition in power, mileage and reliability among them than an obvious failure that knocks one out of competition in one of these areas.

Back when I had my 99 7.3 I was at Menards about 3 or 4 years ago when a guy pulled up next to me in an 03 or 04 6.0. I had just walked up to my truck when he had gotten out and he asked me how I liked my 7.3, then told me of how often his truck was in the shop for one engine issue after another and that he was trying to lemon-law it. He said he wished that he would have kept his 7.3.

I for one am sorry to hear about it. For no other reason that Ford needed a home run with this 6.4. I am all for American Comp. dominating the one last thing I can think if in auto business-- heavy duty work trucks. I am not brand loyal either and Cummins is only reason I have bought my first Dodge. That being said, I am more than satisfied, I love it. I don't know much about the 6.4 but I hope it turns out good for Ford. God help us when Toyota starts making an in-house inline 6 diesel 3/4 and 1 ton. Probably sell like hot cakes.

I see it being different cause it will be a first generation guinea pig mobile and they'll want the buyer to do the testing. There are bound to be problems with this new setup. I just can't see many of the people that are in the diesel market jumping at the chance to be a labrat.
I could be wrong though and they could end up making a great heavy-duty diesel pickup. Maybe it'll have very few problems and they will find a way to realistically price it. People may show up in droves to sign the paperwork and drive off into the sunset. I doubt it though.
However it turns out I'll be holding on to my truck until the second coming or until my time here is up!

I respectfully disagree. Many have shown to be lab rats. New 6.7L Cummins. New 6.0 and 6.4 PowerStroke. Those were very major changes. Toyota has been making diesels for a long time. If/when they introduce a diesel HD pickup, it may not overtake the other 3 (not really Big 3 anymore), but will do well and probably be a quality piece.
Don't get me wrong, I loved my 3rd gen and wish I still had one. The 2nd gen is good too, but in the next two years, once I can afford a new truck again, I will look long and hard at the Tundra. The gas version is very impressive as it is.

I know a hotshotter with a 1 ton Duramax that recently delivered to Nissan Proving Grounds in AZ . They were very interested in his truck , checking axle weights loaded , taking pictures , and asking questions .

Crappy Ford diesels may be the best thing that ever happenned to Dodge. I suspect there are a few hundred former owners on this site.
Toyota is #2 and having more problems. The new Tundra is not meeting sales goals. A friend bought one with the smaller V8, rattles and other problems. Maybe 14mpg on the road. It becomes a challenge to maitain quality when your volume goes up.
NBC had Dodge on the news a few weeks ago in their Detroit truck plant. A new truck rolled out every minute, every day. That is a lot of trucks.
It truly is a shame about Ford diesels. A lot of people lose their butts and hard earned money.
But, like PT Barnum said,"There is a sucker born every minute!". They are at the Ford Dealers.
Long live Dodge/CTD!!!!

I myself am a former 7.3 ford driver that bought a dodge. The 50K price tag drove me away from the fords at the time because I guess the key was made of gold. No ford dealer would bulge on the price so I bought a dodge. I bought sight unseen from the dealer over the internet while I was in Aruba working.
This truck had pulled better than any ford that I ever drove, comes with a 6 speed that is not special order and going on year #3 of ownership has only had to have the a leaking power steering pump replaced.
Best decision I ever made was to buy this truck and will have it as my pulling truck till the wheels fall off.
I work with a lot of other people that own ford 6.0 and all have told me there check engine light is on so as I learned form other ford owners, check the almighty EGR valve. Thanks to owning a dodge it is second hand advice and not first hand learned advice.

Yeah, true there are probably a lot of owners on here that switched to CTD's from Ford PSD's but there are probably as many that have switched from GM's to CTD's, CTD's to GM's, CTD's to Fords....

I've never really heard of anyone going from a CTD to a PSD? Sure it has been done, but I'd think that was pretty uncommon.
