Flatbed car hauler rentals?

I'm getting ready to move and my wife would rather ride in the Ram with me than drive behind me in her Montero Sport. Uhaul rents car carriers, but they're limited to a 4K vehicle weight.

The Montero Sport comes in at 4330#. And of course, if I load the wife, both dogs and the cat into the Ram, all our stuff has to go into the Mitsu, so we'll need a bigger trailer than the Uhaul.

Anyone know of anyplace to rent either a flatbed or an enclosed car hauler that'll hold up to about 5500#?

Thanks.

I rented a two runner car hauler from U-Haul before. Also got one through Ryder, but now that they are with Budget, I don't know. I towed a 1964 Imperial Crown 4-dr. HDTP on the U-Haul. Did well, but I dont know if the hydraulic surge brakes are legal anymore? They worked great! That old Imperial was HEAVY! Full box frame, even through the bumpers! 413 V-8, B-727 Auto, 8.75 rear. Very nice car, sold it to a guy in Nebraska.

Not sure how far you are going, (how many days you will have the rental) But a lot of times you can buy a trailer and resell it cheaper than you can rent one. I sell new ones for about $1,500
And they dont lose much value once you buy one either. I know a few guys who have bought trailers from me who have moved to bigger citys and resold them for more than what they paid for it!

Just an idea! (-:

I'm a Budget dealer and we have a towability guide that states what can be hauled. I think Budget has a trailer that will work becausse I know we've sent them out with SUVs on them before. The problem is that we can't rent the trailer without the truck, even if your truck is better for towing than the Budget truck. You may be able to get a dealer to rent you one but I doubt it....

Good Luck...

Let me know if you want me to check out the tow guide for you......

MNYPDRBLT has the right idea.

Although its a little bit of a PITA, buy a new one, use it 1x, sell it as like new for 100 bucks less than you bought it. Depending on how far you're going, this might even be cheaper than renting... Don't even bother registering it or signing the title...

10 years ago when I moved from S. Louisiana to S. Illinois, I checked the price of U-haul rentals (Truck) and it was cheaper for me to buy a 16' Tandem axle trailer and build sides with plywood and tarp it. I laid the plywood on end so it had 4' sides. I could have sold the trailer after moving, I actually had offers for what I paid for it. But instead I kept it and use it all the time. Plus my cousin, my brother, my buddy, etc.. All I ever ask is that if they are going to keep it longer than a day, to let me know they took it. I would definately opt for buying one again. Good Luck.

All right, O wise ones...

Looks like I'm not going to be able to rent one. So now the question is, who knows anything about brands for these things?

Looked at a "Big Tex" and a "Load-Trail", both about the same price.

What's a good price for a 7K gross trailer (that doesn't weigh a ton taking up your useful payload)?

How about some of you up in New England? What's the used market for these things like?

Thanks for any input you have!

I think they go for around $1800.00 now for a flatbed. Used are almost as much. Check the Truck and Trailer Trader at your local convenience store....
