factory brake control plug ???

I did a search and didn't find an answer to this so maybe you can help me.

I'm installing a brake controller and easilly located the connection under the dash, but I can't get it loose, I really don't want to break anything, and there doesn't seem to be a way of pluging in the connection where it is now, too many wires and the hood latch cable are in the way. Any suggestions? (2002 3500 tow package)

Thanks,
JTMcC.

Blue ended plug? Mine was hanging loose under there, but I have heard that some have found it taped/strapped to the steering column and they had to cut it loose to work with it. Is it too short, or tied down to something?

Can you remove some of the interferences? Or somehow release the wiring harness? You only need to hook it up once.

Not that this helps your predicament, but my '03 was a really tight fit. I didn't think the pigtail would even plug in, but it did.

I got it connected. It is attached to the end of the big block of wires, with no visible means of disconnecting it, so I ended up uncliping the big wire harness from the bracket it attaches too, worked it down past the hood release cable, and had just enough room to make the connection then wiggle everything back into place.

I installed my brake controller in last 3 dodges all had same plug under dash. All I did was to install end of brake controller plug at just a slight angle and it slid right in. This same procedure worked on last three trucks. I did not move or cut anything.

On my 1996, it was a snap. On my 2002, some genius routed a main wiring harness right over the under-dash plug. After much grunting and groaning while standing on my head, I managed to move the harness enough to get the controller pigtail plugged in.

If you go at it from the top side of the harness at an angle it will clip right in without moving anything.

Hoss,

Sounds like the 2003's are easier than the 2002's!

That's possible. I've never tried one on a 2002. I tried it from every angle and tried moving stuff but nothing would move. Finally I tried it from the top side with a downward slant and it snapped right in.

My dad's 04 snapped right in. Took a couple minutes to find the plug, but it had enough room to play with.

My Dakota was a bear. If I remember correctly I ended up prying/pulling on the connector so much something eventually broke. Fortunately it was only the molded clip holding that connector to the connector block under it. Everything still worked fine.

My 04 2500 was a snap. The pigtail was in the glove box. Spice and snap - nothing to it.

I had trouble locating the blue plug at first on my '04.5 3500. My old '98 1500 was easy, so I knew what I was looking for. On the '04.5, the plug was crammed up against the firewall stashed behind a bunch of wires (near to the steering column). I had to yank on it pretty hard to free it. If I wouldn't have known what I was looking for, I don't think I would have found it.
