Expecting too much?
Towed this weekend, first time I was able to get up to speed (interstate) without any traffic or high wind. Pulls decent out of the hole, but the mid-top end power is not what I expected. I’m only pulling a 5K aerolite TT. I couldn’t keep up with a dmax hauling 3 cars on a gn (70-75 mph). I had the converter locked (mystery switch). I just got my smr vb kit, need to install it. Put a new Holley Blue fuel pump in before I towed, 25psi of fuel pressure. I have towed with a buddies 12V (plate & injectors), it had allot more power than mine. Does an EZ or comp add that much more power? This is my tow vehicle, not looking to hotrod, but come on…

It's not going to make you feel any better, and will likely bring on a huge flame war, but my last truck was identicle to yours and I was never happy with how it pulled... I had bought it because of all the wonderful things I'd heard about the Cummins, but I was SORELY dissappointed with how it pulled even the lightest of loads (~4000lbs was a miserable experience!!). As I started to research things, and found this site, I found that things like an Edge EZ and intake/exhaust mods are almost mandatory. However, with the 47RE slushbox, just about any power level over stock requires some pretty pricey mods to keep it alive. I quickly talked myself out of the extra power, and lived with it for about a year until the '03 became available for ordering. I went with the 6-speed this time, and couldn't be happier!
Like I said, probably not what you wanted to hear, but just thought I would share my similar experience...

What I'm hearing is, I won't be happy until atleast an EZ and set of rv275 injectors are in the truck. Once my tranny mods are finished. I would have bought a 5 speed, but the wife has to drive the truck.

I have never been in a stock CTD that I could say that I was truely impressed with the power and how it towed.....I was even somewhat dissapointed with my friend's 05 325/610. What I am continuously impressed with is just how much power is untapped on these engines!!! Add some more fuel and look out!! IMO, a fueling box is mandatory on the 2nd gen 24v's.....you won't believe how much more drivable and enjoyable the truck is after you add a box - especially when towing. An EZ is a nice kick in the pants and will offer a large torque gain for towing without taxing the tranny.......BUT, IMO, I would not bother with an EZ.....for only a little more money you can have a Comp which really blows the EZ out of the water when comparing power gains and offers complete adjustability for the user. Some guys manage 5x5 with a stock auto and others don't.....I'm sure how you drive and what you tow plays a large role in the life of a stock auto with a Comp. The nice thing about the Comp is if there is too much power, just turn it down. I would rather have too much power with the adjustability to turn it down rather than wishing I had more power!!

A Comp will turn into .....trust me.....others will back me up, I'm sure. You really won't be able to stop smiling when drive your CTD after some additional fueling - especially after towing.......there is nothing like a few hundred extra ft/lbs to turn that frown upside down!
