electric brake wiring question

I'm trying to wire the brakes on my neighbor's flat bed trailer. The wires from the drums are both black. The wires from the plug are white and black. The white is ground, the black is positive from the brake controller. I was going to wire one black from each drum to the white wire and the other black to the black from the controller. Is this right? The way it looks now, the black supply wire goes to one black brake drum then the other black goes over to the other side then back to white. Like in series I suppose. It does not show connected on the controller this way. Ant tips would be great. thx

As I understand it, the magnets can be wired in either direction. It doesn't matter which wire is hot and which is the ground. The biggest thing is not to get confused on the wires coming from the truck. Also make sure that you strip the wires cleanly. I installed new brakes on my GN once and had a devil of a time figuring why they wouldn't work correctly. The trailer wires had a double layer of insulation. The second layer was clear and very thin. I totally missed that fact until the trouble shooting started.

Seems to me that you're describing the brakes wired in series. While the magnets aren't polarity conscious, each should be wired separately to feed and ground.

Not neccesary on older units. One heavy lead back from the plug #8-10 ditto ground. Solder all your connections- DO NOT rely on Scotchloks or crimps. Pay special attention to keeping moisture out of the connections. Also wire the ground through the plug back to the tow vehicle. I run a dedicated ground wire directly back to the battery. Frank
