elec brake / 4-pin Q?

i've only seen the 7 pin plug on the bumper, that's all we have on our trucks, right?

if you go to my home page,
http://geocities.com/midwestcamaro/

you can follow the link to my flipped F-150:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/T...150/truck.html
the first thumbnail shows the ribs in the roof.

so I kept the 7 pin to flat 4 pin adapter out of the F-150, about all that was salvageable.

so I plan to tow a utility trailer (wifes motorcycle) to Brunswick this weekend so she can take her driver test.

If I use the 7 pin/4 pin adapter, what part will my Elec brake play?

will I need it?

i was going to take it out, since I don't expect to use it very often (2 buddies have big trailers, I don't)

my elec brake is digital, with 2 settings, one for intensity, and one for attack, how should I set those?

sorry for all the questions..but best be safe, huh?

I think most 4 pins are, black/ground, brown/running lights, green/left blk and brake, yellow/right blk brake. Thats it ,no electric brake pins.
sorry for the flipped pu. Hope she is ok and its not from using them firestones.
P.S. keep the scoot and trash the cages.

yeah, I got the Cummins, and put the Night Train (and the V-Rod) at a local shop to sell, just since the Cummins payments will be so high. get out of Navy in October, wanted to re-allocate some $$ to investments/pay off some crap.

no bites on it. so picked them both up Saturday, and put a 100 miles on them in 4 hours or so. (wife rode hers too), all around Amelia Island/Fernandina beach. Man, I love that bike! but that payment is a PITA.

i even offered to trade the HD for a Jap bike, but no one ponied up the $$ to make it worth losing my HD

i guess my question is, do the 4 pin wires run independent of the elec brake controller? I will leave it in, and test the lites with it plugged and un-plugged, ???

With the 4-pin you will have no electric brake function

wk, right, but with the elec brake REMOVED from the circuit, will the 7 pin plug still output the correct signals for the 7pin to 4 pin adapter to supply to the trailer brake lites?

here's what I am wondering: when you put on the brakes, the elec brake controller modulates & control a signal that gets sent to the 7pin and to the electric brakes on the trailer.

SOOOO...does this signal "become" the wire that turns on the trailer brake lites as it passes thru the 7pin to 4 pin adapter?

i might do some resistance readings of the adapter tonite.

i'm positive the 4 pin will work without the elec brake in place, just really wanted to learn more about it before I started up the interstate and siad DOH!!!

On the 7/4 pin adapters that I have looked into, the adapter plug will make no connection to the elec. brake signal line. They all had only 4 of the pins used. If you look at the 7 pin side of the adapter you will prolly only see 4 blades in the 7 slots, therefor only lighting functions.
Hope it helps

04ctd,
You should have a flat four connector tucked up underneath the bumper.

Removing the brake controller will have no effect on the 4-pin brake lights and turn signals. The brake controller outputs a signal on a separate line (Blue wire) to the 7-pin connector.

Yes again. The brake controller isn't connected to the brake lights in any way. It only controls the actual brakes. The brake lights on the trailer are controlled by the truck brake lights (which would be the green and yellow wires).

cool, tks guys. it's been unbearably cold (mid 60's) , so i have not looked for it yet.
when the temp gets over 70, i'll check it out better....

i'm just new to this towing game, and I'd rather look dumb on this board, than in the ER, or on the side of the hiway

Dan, there's more info on the bike on the link here:
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/T.../nitetrain.htm

my PM's are turned off, email me jstorie@net-magic.net

it's a 2000 Nite Train, some bolt-ons, no major mods. asking just less than $15k,
will deliver to Daytona if you want it for bike week
