egt while towing
Just wanted to double check with you all I just got back from trip on the Oregon coast. I have a 27ft fiver and when I was going over the pass on I-5 between Oregon and California I held the EGT's at 1000 deg at 55 for about five miles. Is that too hot for that time period? On level ground between 65 and 70 mph egt's usually vary between 800 and 925. A 1000 deg seems real hot and I don't want to hurt this truck A couple of times I went to 1100 but just for a few seconds. Bye the way I'm preturbo on the pyro.

That motor will run at 1000* egt all day long......this is what they are built for, running hard and hauling heavy loads....you are not hurting anything.....that motor will be able to sustain 1300* safely.

I hope my reply will help all the guys that post about how hot can my egt's be. Right after I got my Cummins, I too was wondering about this question. So I contacted Cummins and asked them what is the highest sustained EGT's acceptable in my engine. Their reply was that 1300-1350 degrees preturbo could be maintained without damage. This is an engine designed to work guys. If kept stock, you don't have to worry about EGT's.

I hold 1200 to 1300 for an hour or so coming up I8 from the desert in to San Diego. The free way has two 12 mile long 6% and one 6 mile 6%. The truck runs up with no issues pulling my 30' hitting 1350 for short periods and holding 1200-1300. When I unhitch after that pull the truck runs like it took steroids
