yeah I just picked up a 37ft gooseneck trailer with a 28ft deck.Just started a thread on here about if I'm gonna hurt the truck with it but it tow's nice empty or loaded.where as a tow behind bumper puller suck's empty.Just my 2 cent's

Getting another member here a trailer, going back this following week to get, I'm sure he will chime in and tell you guys how I set him up with a nice unit!
Marv and Glenn, Mr. Big Ram set me up with a 20' treated wooden deck with 2' steel plated dove tail, comes with ramps, 7 pin wiring, I have 5200lb tandem axles with electric brakes all around, 2 5/16" bully dog coupler, 7k jack, welded safety chains, breakaway system, treated and primed under carriage (for us that will be in the saltier more humid areas) and I added a spare tire and mount and given the prices of diesel and the fact that he went to the distributor to keep me from going WAY out of my way on my trip home, I got out the door with a VERY VERY reasonable price for my BRAND NEW trailer...I believe that it weighs approx 2300lbs, so that will leave me with 8100lbs of safe payload on those axles...though the heaviest thing I will ever load on it will either be our backhoe (7K) or my dad's truck (7300)...VERY pleased and very excited about picking it up.

I have a Roadmaster 24' enclosed car hauler. according to the manufacturer it weighs 3700 empty. It has 5k axles with brakes on both. I looked at many different brands and I found that some use C-channel, I-beam or fully enclosed tubing for the frame rails. Mine has 2x6 tubing for the frame. I would highly recommend this if you plan to haul heavy or go with a trailer length over 20ft.

It's not enough to say that tubing is better or that it gives you your money's worth. I have a 28 ft with two 7000 lb axles and nice big 12 inch brakes. It has side by side 8x3x3/16 wall "I" beams welded together. That is WAY stronger than one 2X6 box. The cross beam spacing and size also matter. Some have 2 inch box on 24 inch centers and some have 8x2 "Z" beams on 16 inch centers. Then a triple tongue is better than a double and better still if it extends farther back than ending closer to the front.
Lots of factors come together for a sound design. It's a good idea to get under there to study the design and welding quality.

Well to bring back this post. I did some looking around. Looked into plate prices for IL. Anything requiring 10001-14000 plates is 170 a year. Not bad but more than I want to pay for something that isn't going to get used all the time. 8001-10000 plates are 98 a year which is ok. I guess I need to see if I can plate it for less even though I risk the rare even of getting pulled over and wieghed. Probally not so rare now that everyone one wants money. I might just have to fork over the extra dough for the plate and work it a little to cover the price.
Heres the next question. On dove tails should I get one with or without. I'm kind of liking the idea of a nice long flat deck but worry about loading issues with vehicles that have a low ground clearance. Not that I have or do that many but it will come up at some point most likely a VW rabbit or 2.
I went out to a PJ trailer dealer and figured they would pump me up on the PJ trailers. They had about 5 different brands. I got a good look at different trailer trailers and how well they are made. I think for sure I want C channel frames. One or 2 trailer makers used angle iron. Don't know how I feel about that. Also PJ trailers are made in Mexico.
I found a pretty nice trailer thats what I had in mind. Its 22ft 7k axles straight deck and stow away ramps. Its a new PJ which is kind of what I am leaning toward brand wise. Seems like a good trailer holds almost all of its value if you keep up on the maintence. I'm still scanning the used trailers but stuff there seems to requiring a lot of work or 5 bucks under the cost of new. I have been unable to come up with a good deal on a good trailer. I have been toying with finding a decent used car trailer with 3500 axles when the right deal comes along and seeing how much i use it and how often I say I wished I had more capacity. And trade up when the time comes. Thats where I'm at right now

A good friend was recently in the market for a replacement for his trailer. We must have looked at 50+ Trailers, 30 different brands and configurations. We found a local dealer that sells Sure-Trac Car Hauler Trailers. Of the trailers that we looked at, including noted Brand names, the Sure-Trac was by far the best fit-finish and overall quality.
When it comes time to replace mine, The Sure-Trac will be my next purchase

Well I just thought I would reopen this post to let everyone know where i ended up. I looked for about 3 months now and was watching ebay and craigslist. I finally found what I thought was a good deal. I got a SureTrac 18ft with 5200lb axles brakes on both. The guy used it twice and it had less than 100 miles on it. I got it for 2400.00 which seemed really fair since they sell for over 4100.00 new. I'm going to try it out tomorrow. I'll try and post some pics when I get them on here.
