Dodge automatic
#16
A friend of mine talked to a fellow at a trans shop the other day. He had a Allison tore down on the bench. My friend ask about it and he said " we've done quite a few of these". He said its a $1,000 just to pull it out of the truck!

Don't know much about the percentages shown for transmission failures and I've owned 3 Diesels with automatic trannys. I've done lots of towing with them. There is absoulutley
no comparison with the auto compared to the 6 speed manual.
I don't know, but I don't think want goes behind the Duramax is the same as want goes behind the 5.9 or 8.3 Cummins in Motorhomes. Alot of the new Tractors on the road now have autos in them. Not the same thing as the light truck tranny.
I've got 142,000 on my six speed without anymore problems than it had when I bought the truck. Third gear syncro has been a slight problem. Could not get dodge to fix it inside the warranty period.

You can see what I have. If I was going to pull trailers every day it would of had a 6 speed.
I do love this auto now with these mods, and trust it.
Best advice I can give you is to raise the line pressure soon after you buy it and keep good fluid in it. Change it every 10,000- 15,000 miles.
It is a good trany, don't believe the talk that it isn't.
The Cummins is a different animal with a clutch behind it.
