easy on the spurs, thatll keep it from bucking......... what exactly are yall refering to as bucking, never had any prob.s but not sure what you guys are describing.

Its a jerking from front to back,and some up and down too...I've noticed some trailers do it at different speeds,seems to have alot to do with where the axles are..and the spacing of the concrete segments.
Heck my truck "bucks" pretty bad all by itself on the right road,at the right speed.

Most bucking is caused by the load being too far back on the trailer. move the load foward just a bit farther than you normally would place it.

For a truck/car go on and move it about 1-2 feet farther. Some bigger/longer loads may only take a few inches to reach their sweet spot.

When you hit a bump or a rise in the road and your load is too far back it hits this bump like an anchor and causes a bounce in the tail end of the trailer and it reverberates to the front. The load pushed forward a bit prevents the trailer from being tail heavy.

Guess I'll have to try different loading positions. I just figured the closer to the front the better.

I don't think this is really a load position problem, the problem is you have the gooseneck trailer hooked to a fixed ball in the bed of the truck and so there is no flex point, unlike a fifth wheel hitch that flexes. This is where the "bucking" comes from.

if you were closer i would help you figure out a good set-up. with my old dually, i would pull a GN 4-5 times a week and never had any problems with it bucking. some were nice new GNs others were the farm special that was created during bad weather...so not the safest things in the world. could it be clutch related?

We have an old Trail Boss 30' GN that bucks on most trucks, and has since day one. Empty, loaded, etc. Only thing it gets used for now is the D5 dozer.

I don't want any hitch that has any "FLEX", fifth-wheel or gooseneck.


Also, I don't see the bucking/surging we are talking about having much to do with load distribution.

Livestock will pretty much distribute themselves wherever they wish, within the confines of the cut-gates, and liquid just sort of sloshes where it pleases.

With about 98% of gooseneck trailers, I can load wherever/however that the load lands and roll on, no sway, no lurch, no jerk.

It is just about one trailer, out of fifty, that will decide to be a bucker.

These trailers will do it behind EVERY truck, loaded or empty.

I have seen identicle trailers, with identicle axles/placement, and one buck like a mule, the other never.

Well if thats the case, I've got terrible luck, because every trailer I have bucks:
3 Big Tex tandem axle flat bed trailers
1 3 horse slant with 14' living quarters
1 2006 Wildcat 31QBH converted to gooseneck

Somehow I just don't buy this theory that random trailers buck. I've got several friends that haul similar trailers and they buck also. I believe thats a large reason why they make those cushion hitches.
