Electric break switch wires in under dash you should have a plug somewhere under in the left side near emergensy brake. I think i also had a wire go thru the firewall into the fuseblock. The trailer plug supplies charging/lights and power to the breaks.

Get a circuit tester, turn the key to run, not started. You should have a hot at the 7-way plug. I don't remember which pin. I have seen alot of the 7-way plugs be bad themselves. The pins where the body connector plugs up to the back of it behind the bumper tend to corrode and break. Part # 56038366 AB. Most dealers keep these in stock for around $13-$18.

Also the 12v circuit could have popped the fuse. Check the box under the hood. It won't be one of the mini fuses, but a square with a clear top, fuse cartridge. I have seen guys pop them and then stick gum wrappers in them to keep them going. IIRC these are only available at the dealer. I keep lots of extras on board.

Good question. When I checked it on my truck, there was nothing there, even though the trailer breakaway battery was charging. Turned out, the trailer manufacturer had deliberately wired the breakaway box to the tail lights.

I never did pursue the truck connector to see if it was intended to have 12 volts there or not. In my opinion, it should have it.

MY '06 must have it........I picked up my fiver from the dealer and the battery was dead...wouldn't even budge the landing gear.

I plugged into the truck, and put it on high idle for about 10 minutes, and was good to go.

Pin 4 on 7 prong connector is + always on.

Here's diagram:

Wiring Code 7 way Car End #

1 white 10 common ground [7 way connector]
2 blue 12 electric brake
3 green 14 tail/running lights
4 black 10 battery charge (+)
5 red 14 left turn/stop
6 brown 14 right turn/stop
7 yellow 14 auxiliary/back up

NOTE: #7 is the center terminal and currently is most commonly used for backup lights.

Some trailers also have an inline fuse on the battery hot wire. Replacing this fuse fixed mine.

when my trailer batt's weren't charging I had blown one of the 'mini' fuses. I'm only typing this in case someone uses the search feature when they have the same problem.

anyway, go to the fuse box under the hood, pull the cover off, look at the 'legend' or 'key' whatever you wish to call it, and find the one that say aux battery, or something like that.

test fuse, replace if necessary...enjoy charged batteries!

The other problem you may have is if your ground is through the ball and hitch sometimes it's not grounded should see you maker lights flash once in a while if you lose ground. I've had this problem with my interstate box trailer. part of the time lights worked inside and out and part of the time they didn't. Just ran a dedicated ground.

Can someone tell me the physical layout of the trailer pigtail charging wire? I know it shows up at pin #4 on the bumper-mount 7-way, but I'm not sure where the other end (under the hood) winds up. I assume there is a wire under the hood that you hook up to when you install an aftermarket rv battery isolator. I'd like to find that wire.
