Camper Towing and Oil Change Frequency

Gentlemen,
For those of us who us our CTD to tow trailers 8), how often do you change your oil and oil filter? ??? Also, what maintenace schedule do you follow: A or B? I pull my 6200 lb dry weight travel trailer about 10 times a year. Thanks. Love my Cummins. 8)

No matter what, I change my oil every 3500-4000 miles. Oil's Cheap. The engine is not. It's cheap insurance.

I pull a 7000 lb fiver about 20 times a yr. Two trips are of 4000 miles. I use shell rotella 15-40 and change oil and filter every 4000 miles. I have it done at the dodge dealer, can,t beat the price. Cost 41.90 includes all oil and filter, and a wash job is included also in that price. There are still some places where you don't get skinned.

Diesel fuel was 1.39 Sunday

I believe I will be changing my Mobil 1 Delvac every 7500 miles.
BTW Mich, is $1.39 low or high for you? We have $1.33 if you look hard but I usually settle for $1.39 minus 5% discount comes out to $1.33.

Using the Engine Hour Meter in the overhead console, oil is changed every 150hrs or 5000 miles, which ever comes first.

WalMart does the oil change, no wash included, Rotella used,
$ 28.00. Have 6500 miles in towing gear this year so far.
The oil does not start tuning dark until 4000 miles.

Jones0027, If you tow, you must use Schedule B. I don't know of any driver that can qualify for Schedule A.

Since I have a CARB SO, 3750 is my change interval.

I've had a '97 Ram and now the '02 Ram, both with the overhead console. I don't remember seeing an Engine Hour Meter display on either. There is an elapsed time meter. Is this what you are referring to? Or is there a "maintenance mode" you can put the display in?

Thanks,
Rob

Re:Camper Towing and Oil Change Frequency

The 02 ram you have will have an hour meter in the console.
When I change the oil, I reset it to 000 by pushing the two outside buttons at the same time. It records Hour and Minutes.
It's also good to see how much missed time you had on a trip.
It only records the time the key is turned on and shuts down when the key is turned off.

Its a good tool as far as I'm concerned. The longest I ever whent was 186 hours between changes. The marine version of the 5.9 goes 200-250 hours between changes depending on who you talk to.

Re:Camper Towing and Oil Change Frequency

Well this is a subject where everyone has there own opinion, thats great. For the record I to use amsoil series 3000 5W-30 I change my filter every 2000 miles and the oil once a year. I do not drive my truck very much, when I do it is usually pulling a trailer.
