buying a truck

First, i want to thank everyone for their advice given. I hope to have my car sold this weekend, so i can get another truck. My first choice is, of course a new Dodge, but finances right now dictate another choice. I found a 95 Ford f 350 diesel W/50,000 miles on it. $4,000 worth of chrome, it is beautiful. Well maintained, towed a 5th wheel camper to the beach about 10 times, other than that just driven to work. Perfect inside and out and garaged. Only reason it's for sale is the man that owned it died and his wife doesn't need it. If this bone head takes my car, I am going after it, right now they are holding the truck for me till Monday. Best thing about it, is the price tag. Right now I can afford it, it will at least be a good while before I can afford the new truck, but one of these days! You won't kick a Ford owner outta here will ya?

Horselady, all oil burners are welcome here. Best of luck with the bonehead; and keep all that $$$ chrome clean and bright.

I think the '98 and older PSD's are better than the '98 and newer ones. There's just something about the sound of the older ones that seems to be appealing. They sound like they have more compression or something.

Have fun w/ the new truck!

Are 95's PSD's? I don't rememebr the chronology of evolution of the 7.3's.

7.3 PSD's are good motors (I'm not much for the 6.0's tho) and Ford builds a solid truck that rides better than a Dodge.

It's just barely a PSD, first year they were available. I would not want one of the 6.0's I hate to sound like one of the completely biased, brand bashers, but I would not have a 6.0 if they offered to exchange my 95 for one! I am getting rid of my car Saturday. Luckily, I work for the Acura dealership and they gave me a good price just to buy it back from me, so I am going to let them have it, just tired of messing with selling it myself. I went by the bank today, and was approved for the loan on the new truck, so I hope to bring it home Tuesday. First order of buisness is a big can of Mother's polish, and a good cleaner wax, and the paint should look new. I'll get a picture on here soon! First thing is a trhee guage pod with trans temp, exhaust temp, and boost, then aftermarket exhaust, and go from there!

with a 94, you can get the old IDI, a turbo IDI, or a PSD late in the year, but 95 was the first year that they were the only choice. Can't wait to pick up my new truck Tuesday!!!

Make sure the wiring harnesses that run under the valve covers are not wearing through. Some early ones would rub through and short out. These are for the electronically controlled unit (HEUI) injectors and glow plugs. The GPs serve the same purpose as the grid heaters on the Cummins.

Don't recall the year(s), but some also had the wrong o-rings installed on the injectors. That led to fuel in the oil.

My grandpa had a '97 dually w/the PSD. Nice truck.

The engine in my 95 PS was great. I put in the fifth transmission at 138000 miles, & traded it in on my '03 CTD. If the 95 PS is a manual, I say go ahead. If it is the E4OD..... never.... but that is obviously MY opinion. Hope you are getting a manual shift

Your info on 94 engines and 95 PS designation is right on, by the way

Unfortunately, it is an auto, but it has had an easy, well maintained life, so I am taking my chances with it. If it lasts till 100,000 i will count myself lucky and look into swapping it for a 6 speed. I am only pulling around 6000 most of the time, and that is only one day of the week, it takes me to work every day, so it is still on light duty right now. Did notice that it has a trans cooler, but it is the smallest one that I have ever seen! I am at 54,300 right now, have to do a major service at 60,000, including the trans, probably will swap out the coolers at that time, and go with a bigger one. I drove it to work today for the first time, the guys I work with couldn't stop looking at it, I think one of them was hypnotized by the glare coming off the stainless steel turbo wing on the roof

BTW- this is what I like about this forum, over on the Ford site, if it's not a Ford, they think it's junk. I think blind brand bashing only show's some one's intelligence, ... or lack there of! If money was not object, I'd have that new Dodge, and I'm not ashamed to admitt it, (Even on their site)!

Hows about some pics??? sounds nice. Honestly they all have there issues as we ALL know, personally, at times I have had the worst luck with what is rated the best and visa versa, keep up the maint , find a good repair shop for any maint and you`ll see many trouble free miles of service.

I have begun the week long project of going over it with meguires cleaner, then # 7 glaze, then #26 wax. One fender took 1 hour, but BIG difference. Prior owner kept it garged, but it has never been waxed, looks pretty good, but has water spots and a little haze, I will get those pictures as soon as I get it finished!
