Question Which brake controller should I buy?

Need a brake controller for my 2004.5 3500 Dodge SRW. Really have no idea which brands are the best and which model I would need. Will be pulling a 12,000 lbs capacity flatbed equipment trailer with 4 wheel electric brakes. Any advice would be greatly appericated. Thanks.

You need to look at the Brakesmart controller from www.brakesmart.com.

I have a test unit in my truck right now for a technical article, a wonderful unit, well engineerd and in my opinion as good as it gets

Give Steve Guidry a call at 817-456-8773 or visit them on the web, don't forget to tell tell them DTR sent you... You won't be sorry you did.

If you can afford it, the Brakesmart. If you can't, the Jordan Ultima 2020.

I agree with Rusty - - from all reports, the Brakesmart is good. The Jordan is far smoother than the Prodigy. Those are the ONLY three to consider. Rusty has had all three (I think) so he has a good feeling for these. I have had Voyager, Prodigy and now Jordan - - Jordan is the best of the ones I have used.

Another vote for Prodigy. I really couldn't imagine the trailer being in sink with the truck any better when braking than it is now.

If yo paid $199 for the Prodigy then they saw you coming
You can pick them up for $143 at Camping World without even searching the internet or any local RV shop. I got mine for $100 a year ago when I bought my TT. Now I have the Jordan Ultima.
It is a big difference between the two.

Hey Lary,

Does the Brakesmart unit you're testing also have the new EGT/ boost gauge module? If so/not, do you know anything about when the EGT/boost gauge module will be available?

I also love my Prodogy, got it for 99 bucks at my local RV toy store. I really have nothing to compare it to nor can I say how much the above mentioned controllers are.

They are $104 here...

Prodigy is the only one for me also. You set it and forget it. I got mine for 120.00 including the wiring harness and insurance, shipping to the door. It took 20 minutes to install with using the harness.

My last note for three months - - honest. Try out both the Jordan and the Prodigy - - exact circumstances. You will stay with the Jordan - - it is that much smoother and does not have the quirks in unusual circumstances. It works just like the brakes of the tow vehicle. I especially appreciate the current monitor on it - - I crank it up and see exactly how much current my brake circuit is pulling. Voltage does not tell you anything about your magnets - - the current shows you whether all magnets are drawing the correct amount of current.

Had I answered the question as to which controller to buy when I had my Prodigy and before driving a Jordan equiped truck, I would have answered "Prodigy is the ONLY controller to buy - - they are the greatest." Well, you don't know that until you have tried them all. I have not tried the Brakesmart yet - - so, I am listening to those who have tried all three and they are saying Brakesmart is even better than Jordan. Oh boy, here goes some more money. But if you opting for a controller in the under $150 bracket, you owe it to yourself to try a Jordan.

The unit I have is the latest firmware. Steve is working on getting the EGT package ready, but he has his hands full just keeping up with demand as it is.

I agree the unit with the EGT package will blow the competition out of the market, hopefully he will have it ready soon.
