brake control harness

When I pulled the Prodigy brake control out of my 01 I just unplugged it. Is the wireing the same on the 04? The plugs look the same so I would assume that I could just plug and go with the Prodigy.

Re:brake control harness

Hello
That is a vevy good question I am planning on wiring up a brake controler in our 04 that came out of our 99. I hope we get an answer from someone who has made this switch. If not on Monday the 22 I will be working on our truck to see if everything works. I can not do it this week due to the truck being in Va.
Good luck.
See Ya
Chris

For what it's worth, when I looked here, http://www.brakecontroller.com
They only listed one for the Dodge, where they had different ones for GM, depending on year. This suggests to me that they are the same.

The 2003 is identical to my 97. I just pulled it out of one truck and installed in the new one. Casey

Re:brake control harness

The best suggestion for the Prodigy (Tekonsha) brake controllers for the 03/04 Dodge's is to buy the already made pigtail from your local RV dealer or Camping World, about $10. This way you have no splicing to do, just plug it in and go.
Most of us are mounting the controller just above the gas pedal on the knee bolster. Take a look a my pictures of my Ultima installed on members pictures 45 ;D ;D

Re:brake control harness

I am going to add a brake controller to my 99 2500 with tow package. Am I to assume that there is a harness plug in for the elec. brakes so I don't have to run separate wires to the trailer connector? If so, where is it located? By reading the previous posts it appears I would need to buy a pigtail from somewhere?

Thanks

Wayne ???

Re:brake control harness

If the truck cam with the TT package then there is probably already a 7 wire connector at the rear bumper, if not then you need to see if you can get the proper wiring harness to go from the fuse box to the bumper or run the wires your self. Just make sure you use the proper gauge wire and wire it into the fuse box if possible to ensure that you don't fry somthing later on.

Re:brake control harness

The tow package is already wired except for the controller. There is is a plug for the controller in the mess of wires next to the steering column at the firewall. It is flat with four blades and is either light blue or white. You will need the pigtail which is available from most trailer dealers and is specifically for the Dodge. On the Prodigy which I have, I ordered the Dodge specific harness with it. One end plugged into the plug on the truck the other end into the plug on the controller and you are hooked up. I got mine at http://www.brakecontroller.com/ Hope this helps.

Re:brake control harness

Just to interject a little, I stopped by the local dealer and asked about the pigtail. $80.00 was the quote. To his benefit, the parts guy said he would not want to sell it. Got it at TSC for $10.00. Package was only labeled "Dodge" so looks like only one kind, not year specific.

I just bought a prodigy brake controler. Let me know if you need directions from it. In other words if you lost your old ones.

It sounds like to me he was quoteing you the complete wiring harness from the dash back. As stated the Prodigy pigtail is only about $10.

Re:brake control harness

Pigtail it the way to go. Wish I had known about it before I installed mine. I went the "splice it yourself route", which worked alright. Would have been easier to just plug in both ends and be done with it.

If you do the "splice it yourself" method, be careful, because the wire Colors do not necessarily match from the truck pigtail to the controller pigtail.

8.99 for the harness.

Is it really that hard to splice them? Four wires to figure out and the docs seem to cover it. Haven't done it yet myself though.

Not really difficult, but more so than just plugging in a pigtail already set up.
