Bigger Brakes Are Coming! Interested?

Just curious???

How many of you would be interested in running larger front Disc brakes and possibly Calipers to, if all you needed were larger rims. They probably will be 3rd Generation front rotors.

Wooo hooo

I can't wait.

i wouldn't really.. my hydroboost brakes work flawlessly even when towing a trailer with no brakes

don't BS us, you know you ALWAYS need more, you need bigger calipers, caliper brackets, larger wheels and larger tires...

you would have to do better than 3rd gen rotors, in my opinion, that "upgrade" would be a waste of time. if i'm going to spend that much money, they need to be BIG and worth it, 15+ rotors atleast. and for our application, its kinda pointless anyway. bigger rotors are only benificial if your doing a LOT of braking, like road racing where your ALWAYS on the brakes. im not saying our trucks couldn't use a brake upgrade, i'm saying 3rd gen brakes aren't enough of an upgrade to justify the money

The Third Gen Brakes are an inch and quarter larger that's about 30% more stopping force. They use the same caliper and have the same offset. I talked to a company a few days ago who said it was a great ideal and they could make a bracket for the calipers. If it goes this way all you would buy is the Third Gen rotors. Do you think an even bigger rotor would be worth it or a different or bigger caliper??? Keep in mind that this would make parts available anywhere, or not. depending on how they do it.

I tow heavy and even with my trailer brakes they still get hot. I'm usually at 20,000 lbs. an exhaust brake is in my future.

But I still think bigger brakes are probably worth it.

I think just bigger calipers (more pistons) would be fine.

Thumbs up

If it can be done with just a different caliper bracket and using a 3rd gen style rotor then it should make for a reasonably priced upgrade that would be a good option i would say. It would be a nice upgrade for those towing heavy or if you just wanted a little quicker stopping power. I think if the bracket is cheap or at least reasonable in price it would become a popular upgrade.
I say go for it and let us know!

Not trying to steal the thread, but what's the deal with changing rear brakes on like my '99. What do you use? What are the advantages of Chevy 1-ton brakes vs. what we've got? How hard would it be to do a disc conversion? My brakes suck, but I really don't want to spend a boat load of money on something like that unless it is somewhat easy and relatively inexpensive.

I would think it would be a worthwhile improvement on 99 and older trucks, but the 2000 and newer trucks had upgraded front brakes and wouldn't gain nearly as much.

2whistlers: Many have swapped their rear wheel cylinders for larger ones, such as the 30mm GM 1 ton units, in order to make their rear brakes do more of their share of the stopping. It is a very nice modification for the few dollars it costs. In my opinion, MUCH more worthwhile than converting to rear discs. In fact, some truck manufacturers are returning to rear drums on pickups to be rid of the problems.

I replaced my front brakes onmy 2001 3500 about every 80,000 miles. Being I kept the truck 430,000 miles, thats alot of brakes. I only replaced the rear brakes once. shows how well they worked.

I replaced the rear brakes on my 04.5 1 time. I traded it in with the origianl front brakes. I tow and a I tow heavy. The Improvement form the 2nd generation to the 3rd generation brakes is 10 fold.

Then again, when towing, your trailer should stop your truck, your truck should not stop your trialer.
