Bed to High on 4/3 4x4, ???
Did not know where to post...
Truck camper question.
3/4 4x4 has a big spacer between axle and spring,
Would like to buy a 2002 but am concerned about
jacking up the camper that high,
Can you remove the block????
Can you add air bags and relevel the truck by blowing up
the bags?
Like the dodge but concerned about the Bed Height..
Any/all comments would be welcome...

I run my overhead on my 4x4 95, and also have on a 85 Cheby 4x4 with a 4" lift and 33`s. The jacks are slid down all the way in the mounts and have a bunch to go before topping out. I also have manual jacks, wish there were power. Re: pulling the blocks. Id sit way to low in rear and if one of the bags failed in transit it could be nasty to deal with doin 70mph. You probably could have a shop install 2" smaller blocks in back to level the truck but with the camper on it then your gonna be rear end low. Air bags would probably be the ticket like this.

I haven't seen much about it lately, but dodge used to have shorter blocks that you put in place of the big ones. They leveled out the pickup and made it easier to hook up fith wheels and goose necks. Check with your dealer.

Mine had two spacer plates 5/8'' each. I put both on top of the springs. It lowered the rear 1&1/4'' & with the trailer hooked up it worked out ok. The brackets for the spring hangers are welded in different locations on the frames for two wheel drive than they are on the four wheel drives.

My rig in signature has a 38 in. empty bed height.
No problem at all loaing/unloading with Happijac electric jacks on camper.
You take out the spacer blocks, and the truck will squat when loaded.
Also, I've found thru owning/running both that seperate contact helper springs work MUCH better than air bags.

I have a 12 foot camper wieghs in 3200 lbs dry. I have no problem loading or unloading, although it looks like it is on spider legs when it gets high enough to go in the box. I have manual jacks. With the Firestone air bags I have had it all through the Canadian Rockies with no problems at all.I set the air bags at 70 lbs. I get about 20 miles to the gallon. But I keep it at about 55- 60 mph, after all I am on holidays when I take it out.And the guy with the gun says that is as fast as I can go.
