Bear spray

True story:
Cop buddy (Alexandria VA PD) that had a police supply store had one of his young employees check out a can of OC spray that was returned as "ineffective".
Young guy took the can outside into the parking lot, sprayed it and walked into the fog........A little teary eyed, but not incapacitating.
He took it back into the owner and said "It's a bad batch, it doesn't do diddly".
Owner shook the can up, and followed him back outside to watch him check it again.
Spray cloud......Step in.......crumpled to the ground.....
You HAVE to shake it up.

I heard it from the experts in Alaska - - the best thing for bears are those little bear bells you wear on your shoes. It seems most every dump of bear scat has one or two bells in it. Must work.

Some people really react to OC and others dont. I am convinced that its the same with bears. Same with warning shots. Cameroneod may remember--a few years ago we had a very experienced hunter who fired a warning shot at a bear that appeared ready to charge. Before he could jack another round in, the bear got him (didnt kill him thank goodness). With all of the articles, and my own experience spraying a black bear, I dont trust spray and now wont try a warning shot.

bear pepper spray LOL, no, i dont think so, i got my own bear spray, 6 hollowpoint .44 mag shells, if you can aim a can of mace you can aim a pistol, mace in his face will probably **** him off, a .44 hollowpoint will blow his skull apart. .44's dont expire either. you never shoot warning shots, you shoot to kill or dont shoot at all.

It says right on the bear spray can ( this is a deterrent). When I bought it the guy warned me that it is not a magic shield. Gives you that warm fuzzy felling (like a grizzly bears mouth wrapped around your head) My absolute preference would be a .44. But in my neck of the woods a hand gun is virtually impossible to own. I have read some convincing stories of spray use in Alaska. But the guy also had a .45 on his hip. I wonder if I just put garlic behind my ears.

Mmmm, pepper and garlic. Makes even the worst cut of meat taste better.

Do they make the same spray in an "ex-wife" strength, mean bears don't have nothing on the devil's daughter. Although it would be NICE to spray that old !*^%# in the face with it. just to see.

Last time I went fishing in Alaska, the guide dropped us off, by plane, and said he'd pick us up in a couple of days. Before he got back in he handed me an old shotgun with slugs for bear. My friend said we didn't need it 'cause he had his .44 mag in the backpack. He then asked my friend if he wanted a file for his front sight? My friend asked why? the pilot said so it wouldn't hurt so bad when the bear shoved the .44 up his... well you get the idea; and I kept the shotgun.

That is why I keep my defender in the camper loaded with 1 oz. slugs and double 00 alternately. I have lots of handguns and am a pretty handy shot but I won't even think about trying to use one on a bear. I think a lot of people's minds would change given the chance to see a grizzly up close. That head they have will just about glance anything you shoot at it. You have to go right for the boiler room between the brisket and shoulder up front. If it shows you anything else it's not a threat. It's got to be head on. Once you see them drag a mature bull elk around like a rag doll at Christmas you tend to understand quickly.
