I just got back from my second long pull with my 40' Weekend Warrior and cannot get over the shudder at the bottom of 1st and 2nd gears, especially on an incline. I ended up putting on traction bars on my furd to deal with this, but I had larger tires on that one. Anyone else have the same issue and do they have traction bars for the CTD dually?

Where can I find traction bars for an 03' at a good price. I don't know much about them, but I want to make sure I get some decent ones. Also, what do you think might cause a vibration around 60-70 mph. Just the tires off balance or something else. I know all my "U" joints are in good shape. Thanks.

Have you checked your driveline angles? Often a spacer is required for the carrier bearing to prevent the U-joints shuddering in 1st & 2nd...

If I had raised the rig, I would expect to need to check the angles. But since it is the way it came from the factory, I wouldn't expect to have to do that.

Dodge set the driveline angles on these trucks assuming they'd be loaded down with trailers or stuff in the bed, so running one empty can cause the U-joints to shudder. Dodge even has several different thickness shims listed under different part #s for the techs to choose from when correcting the problem/customer complaint.

Put a good load in the bed - at least 1K # - and drive it; bet you won't have the shudder... if you don't want to have the noise empty, lower the carrier bearing.

I would expect that with an empty truck but he said that he is getting it with a 40' trailer so load shouldn't be an issue.

Usually the shudder is from the truck being to high, but on another thread it was reported that being to LOW was the problem... I'm pretty sure either JBody or Infidel was the tech fixing the problem.

FYI, I found these which look like they will work well given that they attached under the spings so they won't conflict with the bags.

Hmm - no downside to traction bars... think I have to fab some up in the shop.

When you build yours make them as long as possible (ideal length is the same length from the center of the axle tube to the forward driveshaft u-joint) and put a heim at the frame mount. I've seen bushed frame mounts crack and have seen the bushing tore apart on trucks that go offroad. Then when your done, make a second set and send them to me...
