Aux tank questions
#46
I was talking to a guy that does hauling and he would have to go a stretch without any filling stations.....so they dicided to put in a L tank....then they put a hand pump on it and went with that....well he got to a weight station and they said that is not considered a aux tank becuase it is not taped into the fuel line.....they recongnized it as cargo....dont know if that makes a difference or not...just thought i would let you guys know.

On my old '92 CTD I installed an aux tank where the spare was. I used tank and brackets from a Ramcharger and it pretty much bolted in. To hook it up I used a Pollack 6 port selector valve. This way when one tank was empty I simply flipped a switch. and started running on the second tank. It did require cutting a hole in the side of the box for a filler spout though. Was pretty sweet though! Could go 1000KM hauling my camper, trailer and Jeep. As was said before getting into some stations with a trailer can be tough, ESPECIALLY at the end of a long weekend when every other RV'er is heaeded home as well!
There are pics in my gallery of the tank install if anyone is interested. I'm wondering if I can do the samething with the new '01 3500. Might have to measure the frame and see if they are close to the same dimensions as the old '92. Mounting the filler spout will be interesting with the dually fenders!
