Auto tranny question

After having the truck for over a year (shifted fine the whole time) I started to do alot of towing in the mountains. The first time I pulled a heavy load up a 18% grade I made the mistake of not pulling it into 1st gear, just had the selector in 2nd. When it started to drop to 25 mph I pressed the throttle to the floor & it downshifted & then up shifted real fast about 10 times till I caught on & left off the throttle(yea,I'm abit slow ;D). Now when cold w/o a load or with a load it kinda shorts shifts & has to much slippage/overlap. Did I screw up the trans for good or should I do a trans service??? Sorry so long but I'm ??? ??? ???

Re:Auto tranny question

I can't help you concerning where you messed up your transmission or not, but if it is still working alright after that you must not have done any damage.

I must ask the question where is this 18% grade?

Re:Auto tranny question

Has it ever been serviced? If not, try changing the fluid, filter and adjusting the bands.

Also interested in the 18% grade... ;D

Tony

Re:Auto tranny question

It's a hill in Pa. going up Rickets Glen. Just when you think your doing fine it adds that extra little "bump" to go over. It's about the only way to get to our property & I have a trailer & truck bed that just needs to be filled up.

Re:Auto tranny question

Ok thanks for the hill info.

I would agree with TPilaske about changing the fluid if you feel that it came close to overheating. Some others will surely reply.
