I've heard great things about www.hornblasters.com - good customer service and good pricing...call for best discount from what I understand. And you can "hear" the horns on their site.

Hadley Airhorns

I installed a set of Hadley Air Horns on my rig. Also had them on my '97 1/2 ton. Run ya a couple hundred. Takes about 5 hours first time install; after scaling the learning curve I did it in about 3 1/2 hours on my current rig. Real loud, look great on the roof, lanyard hanging from ceiling. If you're interested, I'd just google "Hadley Air Horns" and take it from there. Hope this is useful to you.

There's an old but great thread on the TDR about air horns. Loved the comments of one firefighter who called their GROVER "Stuttertone" set

"the Grover Enema"

for the apparent response of people caught unawares in an intersection.

I'm still laughing over that description.

I modified my truck to accept two German-made HELLA electric horns as used on the Autobahn: piercing, irritating-as-hell

and use them in conjunction with the stock horns. About $60

Hooked them up with batt juice via relays, and it more than does the job. You can stand on them all day, unlike the air horn retrofits.

Years ago I took a set of [4] electric metal horns from a 1970's Cadillac (mark them FF-RR & L-R; duplicate mounting) and added a marine horn with a very high pitch, all of it using relays off of the battery in my restored Chrysler. I nailed a guy who caused me to slam the brakes at a redlight as he cut me off. I was about to hit him again, but happened to look to my left at a big ol' black cop who was wagging a giant finger at me not to.

Yeah, they were L-O-U-D.

An electric set-up can be pretty good without all the expense and short "sounding time" of an air horn system. Plus, I never take my hands off the wheel.

Most big trucks I drove had air horns, and they were reserved for highway use only. None of them sounded all that loud or great.

So consider a cheaper alternative as a step up, too.

I've had a 14" grover air horn installed for the last 2 years. It has helped in a few situations, but that's about it.

The biggest problem is that people want to believe they are perfect and someone else is getting honked!

To do it over, I'd probably save my money...all $40 of it; $20 for a solenoid and $20 for a used horn at a big truck wrecking yard. Still need the air for the bags.
