Air Bags or Timbrens

Re:Air Bags or Timbrens
I called Timbren yesterday. Sure enough there should be 1/2" to 3/4" between the axle and Timbrens with no load in the truck.
They are shipping out the correct ones instead of the ones they put in their kit for '03 Dodges. ???
At least they took care of it on the spot with a phone call.
With the Timbrens preloaded with no load in the truck it is a bumpy ride.

Re:Air Bags or Timbrens
The correct Timbrens showed up yesterday. I now have the clearance between the axle and Timbrens with no load now.
I forgot how nice the Dodge dually rides when empty.

I have the camper package so I have overload springs. Who still has the overloads on or did you take them off?
With my gooseneck trailer I hit the overloads and back only drops @ 2 to 3 inches already.
Thanks, Srigs

firestone air rides
i put a set of firestone air rides on my 2001 1500 a year ago and have towed with it extensivally. One of the best investments i have made. let the air out (5 lbs) when not towing and it rides like stock. add the air to level things up when i am towing.
no problems.

I have had both in the past. And I only run Timbrens now. I like them because they are so simple. I put em on and forget about em. No air pressure to adjust, or bags to blow. I have got the Severe duty Timbrens oon my 02' that are designed for rollback's and towtrucks. They are a little stiff, but without them I was about ready to break my springs in half when pulling our 3-car hauler. When I get a really haevy vehicle right over the back of the truck and two more behind it, I am still just barely touching the factory overloads. I am completely sold on Timbrens. They are just so much less complicated and there is so much less to go wrong.

i suppose a lot of the choice between the two is really determined by how you are using the truck. sounds like the trembils might be a good choice if the truck is being used primarily for towing heavy and you are willing to sacrifice the ride when you are not towing
the air rides never have caused me any problems and i enjoy the comfort ride when i am just pleasure driving.

I ordered the Timbrens.
I read a lot of post's suggesting the current method of attaching airbags to the '03's causes loss of some of the suspension travel in the rear.

Well I think I will just leave mine stock for now, if anything I may lower the stops so that the overloads kick in sooner.
So far I don't like the air bag set-ups out their and not totaly sold on the Timbrens either.
I really would like air, bu it looks like I will have to make up my own to get something decent.

The Tibrens don't affect the ride when empty; maybe they do on bumps but I didn't notice. They are great when loaded, they make the truck more stable as well as less sag. They do, however, affect the ride if you have a load that is just enough for them to touch. At that load they are harsh.
From the factory mine had about 1/2" space when unloaded and it took just a few hundred pounds to have them touch. The tongue weight of my pop-up trailer plus camping gear in the bed was just enough. That first trip was a rough ride. After that, I modified the bracket (the original style one) so I'd have 1-1/2" space. Now they touch at 1500 lbs or so and the ride is great at all loads.
