Adapting 6 pin to 7 pin
Hi all, my truck came with a 6 pin harness in the bed for the gooseneck. We are planning on buying a gooseneck dump trailer, but right now we have a regular hitch pull, but it has a 7 pin. I am just going to take a trailer end for the 6 pin, and connect the wires to the 7 pin, wrap it with some wire loom, so I can take it out when I want. I have a wire diagram, but what about the aux. wire for the 7 pin? Does this just get fused constant 12V?

The aux pin is just that; whatever you want it for. Most 6-pins use the aux (usually center pin) for a hot lead. I have seen some using the 6-pin aux as reverse. The 7-pin has 2-aux. USUALLY, it is a hot and a reverse, but you could have any combination you want, including 2-blanks.

If your truck has the flat 4 trailer connector under the bumper just buy a 6 pin connector housing with a flat 4 pigtail. I have seen a 7pin to 6pin adapters but they are pricey. On the 6 pin center pin I use it for reverse gear brake lockout. If I'm not mistaken the 6 pin connector and a flat 4 pigtail is about $10.
