I recently added a small 8' camper to my shortbox Ram. Tailgate lies open to help fold camper - pretty common thing.<br><br>Whoever designed the winch for the spare tire did a poor job - you cannot access it when the tailgate is closed. Anyone have any solutions - such as a simple replacement of the winch system?<br><br>All ideas appreciated.<br><br>Thanks, Marc

I have an 03 and accessed the spare with the gate down last week when I installed the 5th wheel hitch. Just used all the extensions.

 

Mine is a '98 model - doesn't work that way

What if you just jacked up the camper a bit?
