Wow this thread went off topic!

OK I have owned and hauled with both a 2nd gen and 3rd gen both STOCK and I can say that my 3rd gen pulls better.

HOWEVER with the 12v being all mechanical it is easy to get RELIABLE power for cheap. Only reason I went with the 3rd gen is for the body style personally I like it better that and the fact that I couldnt find a decent 2nd gen to touch the price I paid for my 3rd gen

I truly was not trying to get in a edited by admin. I was just trying to figure out how a truck with less hp/tq was stronger and faster. For the record,I LOVE THE 12V! My experience just shows that the 3rd has a bit more umph all the way around. I'm sorry for leading this topic astray.

Talking My two cents.

Comparing an 04.5 to a 92 is really comparing apples and oranges. Obviously the third gen is going to be better out of the box, it's 12 1/2 years newer. I own a 91.5 and it won't hold a candle to a new one towing but I do make about 650 ft.lbs. (just not the HP) and it didn't cost anything, except the tranny mods and intake/exhaust. There are many adjustments to the VE pumps that make a world of difference. I could also get injectors and a turbo and make way over 300 HP (parts are cheap). I also get just as good if not better mileage and that's with no converter lockout. If you want to compare 12v to HPCR use the p-pump trucks. The p-pump can outflow your CP3 anyday and can make great power. When you mention reliable power you need to remember that slapping a big program on your truck isn't reliable either. The turbos on those trucks need upgrading quick and so does the tranny. The whole idea of the $500 comparison is stupid. Because I can buy a 2nd gen 12V for a fraction of the price of a HPCR, put on compound turbos, tranny upgrade, injectors and tq plate and still be way ahead with money. And the power level wouldn't even be worth comparing. I'm not trying to offend I'm just trying to state some facts.

Well just to get back on topic for a minute I just read the article today . I couldn't believe the magazine gave a list of RV transport companies to contact to work for . I e-mailed them and told them to tell anybody thinking about RV hauling to come here and check the archives about posts on RV hauling . BTW the article said that truck had a $500 breakdown the week after it made the trip with the reporter .
