I have new heard of a manufacturer vioded a warranty over an adapter. I would say that a good 50% or more of the RV's in Texas run the gooseneck adapter. Every dealership I have visit seals and installs B&W products.

Last B&W I put into my 10' was $425 shipped to my door. I like the B&W for all of the other options it offers.

I've pulled fifth wheel trailers with my last 2 short box trucks without sliding hitches. They were quad cabs. The mega cab I have now has the same short box as the quad cabs. Should there be any difference??

Well I picked up a 16K Husky slider with the bed rails. I believe that I'm going to need some more hardware though. I think there's some under bed brackets that I'll need.
Anyone do their own install?
I'm thinkin about doing it myself, just not sure if I want to.
Thoughts????

My suggestion is have the hitch installed by a pro. These hydro formed frames are a bit different - - don't want messing it up. And, you want it as close to right over the axle as possible, so let the guys that know what they are doing put it in.

As for your height, it is usually not hard to do a process they refer to as "flipping the axles." They put them above the springs and pick up about 4 or so inches of height on the trailer. Any good axle shop can do it for you and probably cheaper than an RV dealer. Good luck.

I had mine installed also, I feel its worth the bucks, when I went to hook the 5th wheel up it wasnt level had to drop the hitch 1 or 2 notches, now its just perfect, I like that the husky hitch was adjustable.

Don't tow a 5th wheel trailer with a shortbed UNLESS you have a slider hitch PERIOD !!

I can send you the pics of my Mega cab corners after I dented them up bad. I have a gooseneck adapter, B&W hitch and the 4" extender, and still damaged thew truck.

Get a slider, trust me !!! Money well spent. It will be $ 1300 to repair the damage, now, and will have to buy the slider later. Save the dough and hassle!!!

Many of the newer 5th wheels have a scalloped front cap designed for a short bed truck without the need for a slider.

Since you have the hitch already just order a sidewinder pin box from reese and you will have all the clearence you need.

Went to DFW Hitch and trailer and had the install done. Towed the trailer with the existing pin box. No need for the Sidewinder, there's plenty of clearance with it slid back. I'm pretty sure that I could get away with most situations without the slider but it gives one peace of mind having it.

have a slider on my 06 mega. the thing i did not like was coming into a city or trying to make a tight turn in a urban area. (not going to stop on a main street to slide the 5th wheel) I have been towing with the Reese sidewinder for about a year now and its the best thing i have bought in a while. Won't have a trailer without one now!
