5th wheel hitch for 2003 shortbed
I have a 2003 shortbed 3500 SRW 4x4 and need a 5th wheel hitch. I am told I need a sliding hitch. What is everbodys favorite brand that requires no welding and hopefully no drilling in the frame. Also is there one that leaves the bed flat when the hitch is out? I saw the link for the B&W turnover ball with companion hitch but it is not a slider. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am leaving on vacation in less than a month. Thanks, Wade

I would go with the Pullrite Superglide.

Have heard some real good things about them.

Depending on trailer style, a slider may be necessary for the short box, when making tight turns.
Just a thought, would not want to crunch the cab :'(

I highly recommend Pullrite Superglide. The hitch plate slides back automatically in tight turns and slides back into the correct towing position when straight. It cost a bit more to go first class but only one one mistake can cost a lot more than the price of the hitch in body work. Pullrite makes a first class product and they back it up with great customer service. I have no affiliation with the company except I bought one of their hitches and love it. FWIW.

Re:5th wheel hitch for 2003 shortbed
you guys running the pullrite: I understand its easy to release from the bed -- for removal that is. pull four pins and you're free.
so here's my question: so its easy to pull the pins but is it really practical for one guy to get the hitch in and out of the truck bed? When you want to use the truck w/o the hitch back there, you might want to leave the hitch locked up in the trailer storage while you're away.
You could leave it on the hitch pin, but then you don't want the hitch dangling in the air either, so you've got to get it off of the hitch pin to where you can do something practical with it. And once you get it off, you gotta get it back into the truck bed anyway.
I mean, I'm a rather big guy (6' 4", 220) but lifting 240 lbs isn't my idea of fun. perhaps one could fab up a little platform or bracket for a hi-lift jack that would fit into the receiver hitch. or just a piece of square tubing, L-shaped so that one end fits into the receiver and the other sticks up into the air. then you use an ordinary rope come-along. what are you guys doing to get this thing in and out of the truck bed?
