Re:4.10 or 3.73 gears

If I had the 5speed manwell, or even the 6 like the new HO, I would definately go with the 4.10's, but I have 4.10's in mine and I think it geared too low.

Re:4.10 or 3.73 gears

Well last winter I was in the same boat your in ? 410 or 373 ? I decieded on the 410 and I just got back from our first long trip ( 1,900 MILES ) some flat land driving and " SMOKIE MOUNTAIN " DRIVING ( 7% GRADES ) I got 11.1 mpg. Daily driving I get 18 mpg.I only have 8,ooo on the truck they say it will get better with age" we will see " On the 7% grades at the top i was at 3100rpm with plently on pedal left. Why DUALLY? I had no,no promblems with my SRW AT 65-70 MPH.?? That was my main question when i was trying to deciede . Sure am glad i got the SRW, NO PROMBLEMS AT ALL!!!!!!! Besides the dually gets about 2 miles per gal. less. And for a daily driver or driving around a town your in, FORGET IT !!!!!! This will get the ' DUALLY GUYS ' going. Tough! I'm a happy guy with a SRW pulling a 12,000lb. 5er.

I want a dually because I blew a rear tire on my SRW a few weeks ago and ended up with the trailer partially in the ditch. No damage, but it really scares you bad when something like that happens.

My truck is no longer my daily driver, so a dually won't be a problem that way.

belfert:
I pull an 11k fiver, and I average 10-12 mpg. When solo, I have gotten as much as 20, but usually get around 18 on the highway, and 16 or so around town.

Brian the best life insurance you can buy is 14 ply rated tires. You cannot break them. With the weight I pull I never even had a flat for over 100,000 miles with single wheels.

A 3.73 would not work for me at all at 55 to 60, I would have to drop to fifth gear.

Bob, I don't see what the problem is with downshifting to 5th gear. So it revs a little higher. Isn't that the whole idea of having the 6 speeds? Just drop a cog and keep on truckin'! Buzz ;D
