19000 lbs is within the door tag if you run a 25% pin weight. 12500 GVWR - 7000 lbs truck weight = 5500 lbs * 4 for 25% pin weight = 22000 lbs trailer. Of course if you put a 1000 lbs bed on there you will only be able to pull a 18000 lbs trailer staying within all weights.

Yep, and GM has had IFS for longer than that, and I don't want one of those either.
I'm just 'old-school' I guess. I like leaf springs, solid axles and real frame rails. If I'm gonna pay upwards of $40,000 for a truck, I'm gonna get what I want or I won't 'get'!

Just MY opinion!

There are haulers that will tell you you can haul over 30,000 lbs. GCVW legally with proper weight distribution , tire ratings , trailer GVW , etc. . They are correct as far as DOT goes but have a serious wreck caused by some idiot 4 wheeler and his lawyer will have no problem convincing a jury you were grossly negligent exceeding the GCVWR of your truck .

My point exactly. And I've seen that happen.

iker42, you have evaluated the new 2007 Dodge chassis cab Ram truck realistically. DC is just not getting with supplying a unit with a legal GVWR like GM and Ford have been providing in the medium truck range for decades.

Example: My 2005 Dodge 3500 SRW with a 35 gallon fuel tank has a GVWR of 9,900 lbs., while the new 2007 SRW chassis cab with the 52 gallon fuel tank has a GVWR of 10,200 lbs. The new truck only has a 300 lb. higher GVWR than a pickup, but the chassis cab's curb weight will be higher than the curb weight of my 3500 pickup, because, for one thing, it will carrying 17 gallons more diesel fuel. I do not know if the 6.7L engine and corresponding drive train components are heavier than those of my 5.9L drive train, nor how much heavier a deck is over a pickup box. When everything is taken into consideration, I know the 2007 chassis cab DRW unit will not nearly meet the legal GVWR requirements for towing heavy loaded gooseneck trailers with high tongue weights.

I would like to get a gn flat deck trailer that has a TW well over what a DRW chassis cab can handle legally. The 4500 should have larger wheels and tires, a factory installed internal engine retarder brake system and a manual transmission with more gears and closer ratios. DC said they gathered input from end-users in developing the 2007 Dodge chassis cab. They must have talked with RV towers and performance enthusiasts. Yes, the 6.7L has future potential to walk over the Duramax and the straight frame rails accomodate a deck nicely. The straight rails would also accomodate a moveable fifth wheel to place more or less weight on the front end of the truck. Nevertheless, the 2007 chassis cab GVWR is the same old drawback to legally hauling heavy loads that serious working users already have been hindered by for several years.

I think D/C is trying to keep Dodge from taking sales from the Freightliner FL . A 60-65 gallon fuel capacity would have been nice too . You wouldn't have to fill it all the time - just often enough to get free showers at the truckstops . A 50 gallon tank won't get a hotshotter or RV hauler a good legal day's run on one fillup either .

These trucks will pull anything all day long, but stopping it is a whole nother ball game. When some dope slams on the brakes in front of you because of a 1'x1' cardboard box in the road and your pullin 40k, do you think those brakes will do it? I dont think so, the brakes on these trucks are fair. Trailer brakes are okay but dont work but so well in most emergency conditions. Most people (not so much on this site) dont realize that they have to stop the load in a REASONABLE distance before they think they can pull it.
