Question 2007 Chassis Cab weight ratings?

Looking at the weight ratings for the 2007 Chassis Cab the Ouad Cab with dual rear wheels has a GVW of 12,500.
The GCWR is 23,000 yet it states you can tow up to 16,500.
16,500 + 12,500 = 29,000 GCWR
In order for you to stay within the GCWR of 23,000; the truck would have to have a GVW of 6,500 if you were towing a trailer with a GVW of 16,500, or with the truck GVW of 12,500 you could only tow a trailer with a GVW of 10,500.

What’s up with these numbers? How does Dodge figure you can tow up to 16,500.

The truck weighs in the neighborhood of 6500 lbs. for the chassis cab. When they say "properly equipped" then it is their best case scenario. This would be the standard cab dually with a curb weight of ~6500 lbs. So 23000 minus the curb weight is 16500. The truck would probably tare at around 6200 in all actuality with fuel, people, etc. I think it's a marketing game between the three OEM's for the most part.

But the GVWR of these trucks is 12500, even if you had the truck weighing 8000 lbs, that leaves 4500 lbs of pin weight, you could tow an 18,000 lbs trailer (4500 lbs X 4) for a 26000 lbs GCWR, and that is staying within the GVWR and both GAWRs.

The 23000 is just a Dodge number for warranty

the funny part is , what does a loaded mega cab duakky( i typed duakky...lol, its late, i meant dually) weight? load in the family/buddies, the system....dvd player, and a loaded 5th wheel.....its probably way over.

I m guessing the truck with 4 guys could be 10000, 10500? pretty easy.

weight of dually

My 2006 QCDRW weights more than 8k with a very lightly loaded cross the bed tool box and 24k hitch. With four adults and full tank of fuel I would guess very close to 9k. You were asking about a chassis cab which would be slightly less because it has no bed. I would bet the new 6.7 and 6 speed auto and new type frame and new fuel tanks... this truck will be slightly heavier. So lets go back to 9k.

23,000 minus
9,000 = .........14,000# RV to stay within suggested GCVW.

12,500 minus
9,000 = .........3,500#s for max pin weight to stay within suggested vehicle GVW.

Just to let you know, my truck can handle 4-5k pin weight easy and I pull 15,500-16,000# easy.

1320....Lets not forget the GVW on a MegaCab dually GVW is only 10,500#

Put a hauler bed on the chassis cab and that brings the pin weight down so with my monster RV I would still be overweight.

My truck pulls and stops fine but do the math and I'm over weight.

I hate math!!!

I haul Rv for a living and i have yet to see 1 scale ask for the GVCW on my truck, all they ever do "IF" they scale you is make sure you are not over weight on your tires. Now a single wheel with 245/75/16 with a load range E tire can have 6,084 pounds on the back axle, mine 96 Dodge weighs 3,086 pounds so legally i can haul any trailer that has a max pin weight of 3,000 pounds on it. Now a dually with the same tires can haul 11,136 pounds on the back axle, so even with a bed, or a flat deck , it would take a very heavy pin weight to ever put you over weight. Even tho my dually i pull with has a GVW of 10,500, dont mean i cant legally put more on it. TO put that much weight you would most likely have to add some more springs as the factory springs are not strong enough for that much weight, but i know they will handle 5,000 pin weight, as I have scaled that a few times before and not had a problem.
