plain and simple...

Yes, you truck will handle the weight no problem.

no, you will not have to stop at the scales, your not commercial, your private.

Thanks for the info guys!! It's looking like March sometime. Funny thing is I have another friends toolbox I have been keeping in my garage and he lives not to far away from where the tractor is, so I'll kill two birds with......one Cummins?!!

Make sure your rig (and trailer) are clean - good ligts, tag, etc. Cross Chain the tracor @ 4 points. Balance the tractor (forward or aft) on the trailer to reduce tongue weight and create level appearance. If owner of tractor is not owner of truck/trailer, do a "dummy" Bill Of Sale so if queried it will appear that private vehicle is hauling his own property. Don't stop at scales - if stopped, you should be able to demonstrate that you are private (not-in-commerce // not commercial). I have found "appearance" can go a long way to having somebody not go after you - if you look like a rolling wreck, you'll hit their "radar". Best of luck !

I pull my tractor with loader and backhoe back and forth between Indiana and some property I own in Florida and never stop at the DOT scales. You only need to stop at the scales if you are hauling commercially.
