I have never been stopped but my son was while towing one of my trailers. He had stopped at a factory in Yorkton SK to pick up some items for me, while he was still in Saskatchewan he wasn't speeding but was pulled over on the side of the road by the weight police. He had the registration for the trailer and bill of sale in my name for the items in it. After a grilling everything was in order so he was on his way, just surprised he was stopped.

I've been out of BC for a couple years now, but the last year I was in BC I got busted for being overweight with a tandem axle car hauler. None of my axles were overweight, but my truck wasn't registered for a high enough GCVWR.
So I went and got it changed to 7000kg cause that was more than I would ever haul. Even at that, I was legally required to stop at any scale, regardless of whether I was pulling a load, or taking my dog to the park.
If you register over 8500kg in BC your truck becomes a commercial vehicle which requires an inspection every 6 months, and your trailer also would require an inspection annually.
As people have said, all they care about is that your not over on your axles, tires, or registration, but how are guys getting away with pulling 10 ton loads?

B.C is legislated for GVWR only on private vehicles, your gcwr is not legislated. I talked to the DOT here ,they only enforce axel/tire ratings on private vehicles and do not bother RVERS.The RCMP here do spot checks and will enforce the GVWR on vehicles that look suspect/overloaded,
