07 - how much can i tow ?
Hello Fellas, I have an 07 5.9 diesel, I went to the Hershey PA RV show thsi past weekend, and I am in the process of purchasing a 5th wheel rv, but I am now wondering if my truck can handle the weight. here is the spec of the trailer:
Dry Weight: 9741
GVWR: 12380
Carrying Capacity: 2639
Hitch Weight: 1980
Let me know if you think my truck can handle this weight.
Trailer is about 34 ft long.
Thanks

With that info you might be able to figure it out on your own, and without it nobody here can give you an informed answer.

sorry, truck is a 2500, I believe i have the 3.73 gears. I also found this site that was helpful. and according to it, this will be the max for the truck.

My 06 is a 2500 and 373 gears, my 5th is 35ft 8 inch and my weights are right at what yours is and I tow from Northern BC Canada to Arizona and back every year and I have no problem at all, I cruise from 60 to 68 mph all day on the freeway, Just make sure you have a really good brake controller and have the trailer brakes set up, the towing is not the problem it can be the stopping. good luck on the new trailer. airbags dont hurt either.

With a Cummins, the question isn't "How much can I tow?", rather "How much can I stop?". If you have the manual tranny, an exhaust brake would sure be a nice addition with that kind of weight behind you. If you have the auto then never mind...best of luck and try to avoid any long 8%+ grades.

With the 07 5.9 I believe you can get a PACBrake that works with the auto installed at the dealer. I would still entertain it for hauling something that heavy and I think PACBrake has an external controller to mount on an auto.
