TA-DA! Got The Hi-Idle To Work!

TA-DA! Got The Hi-Idle To Work!
Well, you're probably saying, "It's about time!". The main problem was that I couldn't find that green wire with the heat shrink tubing that needed to be grounded. I finally wound up cutting off the electrical tape around the wiring harness coming through the firewall and voila! There it was! It was bundled up with the rest of the wires all this time. I put that wire to ground and my high idle now works (it would have been nice if they made that wire several inches longer).
Thanks, guys. You've been a great (and might I add, patient) source of information and assistance...

My high idle kicked in this morning all by itself. Did not know the 6.7 already had it turned on. Call XCLR8 and he said its built in on the manual now depends on what flas you have for it to activate. Now this wire you are talking about lets you turn it on whenever?

the high idle you speak of on your truck isn't really the high idle. all of the trucks do what you your talking about. in colder weather, your idle will automatically bump up to 1100 or so. but we're talking about the real deal. the high idle that has to be enabled with the starscan, and is turned on and off using the cruise control when the truck is idling. with this, you can adjust the idle anywhere from 1100rpm to 1500rpm. you can use it to keep engine temps up to warm the cab in winter, cool it in summer, prevent wet stacking and carbon buildup, and to run equipment off of the pto. on the manual trans you have to ground a clutch safety switch wire, or install the clutch safety switch for it to work. none of the trucks come with the high idle enabled from the factory, and very few if any dealers enable it without being asked. and many charge to do it.

Let me explain. I have a manual transmission truck. If the dealer were to enable the high idle feature he would have to install a switch on the clutch pedal, all to the tune of about $3-400. In order to do this he would have to access that same wire. I did it myself for free...can't beat that!

yeppers, mr. ed is right. totally different on an auto tranny. on the auto, it only has to be enabled in the computer. with the manual you have to either install a very costly clutch safety switch, or ground the wire. either way you are accessing the wire. may a well ground it for free! i personally wouldn't (and didn't) pay the dealer $20 to do it. these trucks should come from the factory with it enabled. my dealer and many others will do it for free. it only takes them 5 minutes if they know what they're doing.

If you have an auto you don"t need to ground that wire . Just have them enable the high idle with the star scan. For the manual you need to ground that green wire with the orange stripe. Which dealer does it free??? Around here these big city dealers want $110.00 dollars to enable my high idle.
