Codes, Terms & abreviations
I was just wondering, being new to this forum, as to wether there is anywhere i can get a list of the most common abreviations you use, like vp44 etc and what it relates to, and error code numbers and what they mean, perhaps there is a section for complete idiots like myself, any info would be appreciated thanks..

As for the different types of scanners or code readers, I don't have a clue what's good or bad. The trucks from the year 2000 and up will show any set codes by cycling the ignition key 3 times. the 1998.5 and 1999 will not do this however.
Since you are across the pond I guess,,,,,, I can only tell you that most of our local auto parts stores (like Auto Zone, Pep Boys and Advance Auto) will pull up any codes for free. Auto Zone did mine after I had the "Check Engine" light come on and found the code for a bad Crankshaft Position Sensor. (I just got done replacing that tonight.) If you want to purchase one for your own, there are probably many to choose from in price ranges from $99 to $300 and up. A friend of mine bought one from AutoZone when it was on sale for $99 a couple of months ago and he uses it on his Chevy Tahoe, plus he said it will also work on mine. I'm going over to his place tomorrow and have him clear the CPS code on mine since it is now fixed.
