yes, another Boost question

I’ve been reading many, many posts on this and am now more confused than ever. I have a 2001 3500 Auto with an Edge w/ Attitude. My question is can I install a boost elbow or “hook” to get more boost. I currently see +/-24 lbs at WOT. But from what I’ve read my EGTs would drop if I get more boost. So again I am a little confused on my options.

I haven't played with that yr truck , but I think you can put a boost elbow in .
A couple of things that occurred to me was to find a chart that would tell you when you get beyond a point you start heating up the air with too much compression , at that point you need a bigger turbo - volume , not turn one faster - compression , so the idea is to try to pick a HP level that you want & find the turbo that is made for that , what HP are you at now ?
Like most anything , the part you pick should run in the middle of its peak most of the time , the may be some room with the turbo you have , just have to see the numbers .
I saw a chart a while back , but did not save it , or have so many bookmarks that I can not find it .

I don't know what a j-hook is. But with a boost elbow and your Edge, you should be able to get more than 24 psi boost since the elbow regulates the amount the wastegate opens. Without your Edge, you would NOT see an increase in boost even with an elbow.

This may be a dumb question, from what I’ve read there are different “hooks” available. Is there a benefit to the adjustable vs. fixed

Or you could just pull the compressor cover off and tap the hole the wastegate tube goes into with an allen head cap screw and be done for about 15 cents.

Well I finally got around to putting in the “j-hook” all I can say is holy ****. What a difference, I should have done this years ago. Took all of two minutes to install and I’m now seeing 25+ psi constantly.

It’s actually just a turnbuckle from Lowes. Cost about $1.50 easy as pie to install.

From what I’ve read I shouldn’t go above 35 psi on the stock turbo. What kind of mileage are you getting?

I ran a turnbuckle for two yrs on my factory Turbo. Need one with hook on both ends (I bgt two cause they all had eyelet on one end...cost $4.00). Just lock down the arm so it can't open the Wastegate. Keep your fueling reasonable so you don't exceed 32-35 psi boost.

Just be sure to saftey wire it so it can't loosen up....cause they all will!

yeah you're definitely right about not wanting to exceed 35psi, i was surely pushing the limits. i no longer have that truck but with the juice/attitude, and jammer 3's i was maybe getting around 16mpg on a good day.
