XZT+ Help

I sent this to Quad in a PM, but i will post here as well to get others opinions. I have a 2002 as you can see below with the Xzillaraider and just bought a XZT+ to replace the Superchips with. However i have a couple questions...

1) i know the power settings are off – Mileage Max – 65HP. However, I can’t find anything that tells me which position is which. Is off in the center or to one end? When I turn it to one end, there is a serious kick in the pants which I assume to be the 65hp. I cant tell a difference in the other two positions.
2) Should their be a change in idle between stock and with the box on? When the old superchips would add timing, there would be a distinct change in engine sound, but not with the XZT+. Is this normal?
3) i can barely get any smoke with the Xzillaraider on LVL 2 and the XZT+ on 65hp (well I think it is the 65hp setting). Is this normal? With the superchips, it would bellow black smoke when I lay into the throttle.

I am able to update the box with different tunes (currently 2000) which tells me that the box is working fine.

Any thoughts?

Can't really help you with the Xzillarader but the switch on the XZT is Off, timing, fuel+timing. Just remember that the middle is timing only and you can figure out the rest. IIRC the 2000 tune is a mild tune so it might not put out much smoke. I'm running a 3000 beta and it will smoke some at rpms below 1700 as long as I have the timing/fuel switch on. This is a very clean running box and does a great job.

Yes, the middle setting is timing only.

And also agree, get the 3000-beta tune. I'm at 6000 feet and it will smoke when I want it to.

And as far as noticing a difference in sound when switched from off to timing only... I experience absolutely no difference in engine tone either. Heck, to be honest, I don't even know if the "timing only" setting is doing anything. I personally haven't noticed any MPG difference, but I sure know it when I hit fuel + timing.

One position is the 65 hp setting, the middle position is timing, and the other is off. I don't notice any difference in sound when going from any of the positions on my xzt. The 65 hp setting you can get some smoke out of it. I'm running the 3000 tune also and I like it alot. Its very responsive. If you want to try the 3000 tune PM me your email and I can send it to you. You can't download it off the quad site.

Load a tune that has a cold warm up mode (ie 1004) and high idle only engages after warm up in the off position. since the positions are off – Mileage Max – 65HP. Off is the position that has high idle after the truck gets above 140 degrees. One of the end positions. Center should be (mileage max)timing only and other end position is (65hp)fuel and timing mode.

The 3000 tune engages at 140* of engine temp, will high idle after 2 min at any position when engine is cold. When engine is warm I think it will high idle only in the off position after 2 min.

That spreadsheet is helpful... thanks...

Now where are those 3000 and 4000 tunes? i will PM you Blue for the 3000 tune.

Thanks for all the help guys... I definatly know which one is the 65HP setting. I assume the thing is working on the middle setting as well.

I guess i expected this thing to smoke like the Superchips and i expected it to change the sound like the Superchips. Neither of which it does. That being said, i am happy that it does neither of these. with the Xzillaraider on PL1 and the XZT+ turned to 65HP, the truck just GOES...

I will find out when i fill up again if the "mileage" setting is working like its suppose to.

I think you'll like the 3000 tune, alot of people are happy with it. never heard of the 4000 tune for the VP44 trucks, I know they make a COMP tune but never seen a 4k tune.

Sitting at idle, you will notice a very slight timing change when going from "off" to the middle setting "timing only." I haven't really noticed much difference between the schip and the xzt+, other than all the variations and dload options. Overall, happy but once my high idle kick in, the truck dies....not sure what's going on.

Mine was kind of doing that and I got to watching my voltmeter and FP gauge and noticed that the volts and FP would drop waaaay down when the grid heaters would cycle. Slapped a new LP on and all is good...figured it had a short in it. Not saying this is your problem but its an easy, free check.

As for official 3000 & 4000 tunes they do not seem to exist. It appears that there may be some unofficial tunes like the 3000 out there. I wonder if anyone has other unofficial tunes.

Hamilton...Thanks. It's inevitable when I sit there and watch/wait for high idle it does not die, when I get out and it goes to high idle, it dies. Filters are clean and LP is good, so I'll continue my search for what's "killing the ctd upon high idle."

And yes, welcome to the underground world of XZT+ 3k tunes.

I created that spreadsheet when the beta 3000 tune was released. At the time, Quad said in a post that there would be corresponding 3000 and 4000 tunes to go along with the 1000 and 2000 tunes. I guess they decided to go a different route and I never updated the spreadsheet. The 1000 and 2000 tunes are still accurate according to the spreadsheet. Just ignore the 3000 and 4000 entries.
