XM radio antenna cable runnin'?

I am thinking about getting XM radio in my truck. The antenna that comes with the kit I am looking at is a small, square magnetic mount one. I plan on putting it on the roof. For the folks that have something similar to this, how have you run the cable? I assume the cleanest way is to drill a hole in the roof and run it through there. I would like to avoid this. Are there any other options?

Thanks,
Rob

Get the one that shoots through the glass that is the one I have no holes required. Im pretty sure the last thing I would do is drill a hole in my roof.
Find the antenna here

Jamie,

How far north will XM radio reach? I've got an XM ready head unit, but I was told it wouldn't reach me up here in the frozen north country.

Remove the 3rd brake light, run the cable into the cab following the light wire, under the head liner to the tuner. If you run the cable in from the bottom of the brake light, reinstall the light, pull the cable up over the lense and magnet mount to roof. this is how mine is ran and i havent had a leak yet.

If you are looking at the Delphi system the antenna that comes in the kit has a different connector than the rest of the uinits on the market, so you need to use the antenna it comes with. They just changed these in the last couple of months. You can change the antenna on the older kits that have 2 plugs on the cable.

Hope this helps.

Mine runs in with the 3rd brake light also... No leaks but I had it installed by a reputable shop so if it does they get the > treatment!

Jamie & MLR1,
Thanks for the tips/link/info and ideas. Never thought about going in through the brake light and did not know they made thru-glass antennas for the XM radios. Got some deciding to do.

JCL123,
If you don't mind, would you shoot me a PM with the shop who did your work?

Thanks

I have mine run through the modeling around next to the rear door on my QC, I just run it over the rubber seal into the modeling then down to the rocker cover upfront under the dash. Works well and I did it my self

I have used mine in the most northern parts of MI no problem

I too run mine like KC did. This was the easiest way to install the antenna and it is very easy to pull it off and stick it inside when parking in a bad side of town or going through a carwash for that matter.
