Wiring harness

There were several different dash harnesses possible for each model year of truck, depending on what options it had. They were kinda funny in that some trucks would have the wiring (or some of it) for a certain option that the truck didn't have. It's hard to say whether a 1500 harness would have wiring for the "wait to start" and "water in fuel" lamps for example, but overall, a 95 harness should be fairly close to a 97. You may have to add a couple of circuits, but you're a lot closer than with, say, a 98 harness.
Generally they do come with a paper tag on them with a part number. It may or may not still be there.

Thanks torquefan that was the best info we have got all day! Nobody could tell us one-way or the other. What we have is the "95" is our track pull truck and over the weekend at a pull, some of the dash wires caught fire! Well doing as much fixing and repairing as we do around here, we have spare parts and parts trucks. The"97" has the best dash and wires still in. It is just we were not sure if it would work, the people at the dodge house could not even tell us. So thank you again for your help.

You're welcome. Like I mentioned by PM, you might be better off to lay both harnesses out side-by-side and build one out of two. I'd hate to guess how many different part numbers were available for a 95 3500 diesel dash harness, but from my experience even a great partsman has a horrible time getting the right one if the part number can't be found on the old one.
