will stock clutch hold?
Yep look out another newbie here. Found a really good deal on a new edge comp box so I ordered last night. Ordering a catcher tomorrow and was wondering if my stock 5 speed clutch will hold. Thanks for the input

That depends on how you drive. Baby it, and it will last a long time. Honk on the throttle and let the clutch slip a bit, and you will be first in line for a new clutch and a refaced flywheel.

I installed DD3's and a power puck last August. My stock clutch lasted about 10 months before it started slipping. Just had a South Bend OFE clutch installed two weeks ago. Its the only way to go!!! Now upgrading to a TST box. Now that I can grab on to the new HP.

How grabby are the south bend clutches? I have also read that the 5th gear nut is a weak part but dont know much more about it. Any info would help

Don't lug it in 5th.. will help the gear stay on...
Comp.. will be about the limit of your clutch... (it can just a little more if its in good condition.)
Make sure you order a "special" catcher since your going to run it with the Comp..

I'm not planning on tapping the wire yet but I couldnt pass it up. It is only costing me about $35 more for the comp than the ez. Would I have to send in the ecm again if I tap the wire in the future?

I ran my stock clutch for about 60K with the Comp.. and then another 30K with the Comp and DDIII's.. changed it at 145K.. and it wasn't too bad... 5sp... stock 6sp clutchs don't last...
If you run the comp Tapped or not tapped... you still want the "special" version of the MAD ECM.. its the timing that's the killer..

Stock clutch here. Held EZ and DD2 for 26K miles (almost ALL around town and hotrodding).
Now, it's holding Mach 4s This is a 6-speed.
It's all in how you drive it. I can let someone else take brief spin in my truck and the clutch is NOTICEABLY softer after they have driven.
My clutch likes me, but hates other drivers.

i agree with JDGnut.... stock 6sp clutchs don't last... thats the truth. ive got 130 horse jammer nozzles and a comp and my clutch was slippin the 1st day i put the comp in. Gotta get a clutch that will hold around 550 horse. ( for future upgrades, of course )
