Will a #10 plate hurt a 95, stock auto?

I have a friend who has a stock 95, 180hp, 3:54, 150,000 miles, automatic. I was talking to him about waking up his engine until I found out it was a auto. I know that particular transmission is not happy with added power, but could it stand a #10 plate without blowing? Would I be better just sliding his stock plate forward, as well the starwheel? He is not into a full bombing, but would like a bit of added power. Thanks in advance.

Both my trucks have had #10s in the stock position since almost new. Stock tranny went 212k before I replaced it.
Probably could have gone longer but I had the money.
How long the tranny lasts depends on how you drive.
Would recommend at least a pyro no matter what he does.

I got a #10 in my '95. I put it in at 190,000 miles with no problems so far. An even better mod would be a #10 and the 3k GSK kit. It really woke up mine. I think the GSK is a must!!

Oh yea, just for the record the '95 autos only had 160 HP.

A stock '95 auto truck is only 160hp. Not 180.

In stock position, a 10 platw will be fine.

Depends on the foot. light foot could last a long time heavy foot and its bound to go sooner than later.

mine was burning the clutches a bit even at the stock 160hp. The stock torque converter was really inefficient. I picked up about 4mpg highway with the swap.
I put that #6 plate in and I could tell it wasnt going to last ;p

i agree with hotmopr, some trans make it longer than others, but the stock trans can't hold back most stock engines. so just tell him to go light on the foot if that is possible

Bill is the one to ask, I have a 95 auto with a 10 plate all the way forward, along with the afc housing, 3 k gov kit. 215 injectors, 17 deg timing, no problems with the transmission except for the tps switch. I have 128k or a little more on truck and I use the truck to tow. I do drive like an old person. I dont intend on trashing a working transmission just because it can be done.
One thing is dont tow in overdrive below 1700 or so. I use 3 gear lockup with 3.54 gears. Us rpms ( oil pressure ) to help your transmission live.
Also for what it is worth if you loosen up the AFC spring and add a lot of fuel on the low end that is not good on the transmission. I have the mine set loose but I ease into the throttle and let the rpms come up before I give the engine a good amount of fuel. Good luck Jim

Put a plate in it, about center to 3/4 forward, and a 3k. That will wake that truck up, and it really shouldnt hurt the tranny as long as it wont slip the converter in overdrive when its locked.

Thanks for all of the replies, they were a help. I will try to convince him to goose the engine and go easier on the foot. Knowing him, he will blast it, fry the trans and come squawking back to me accordingly . I, on the other hand, will tell him it is now time to do the trans, and as long as he is at it, why not do a few other things as well. Let the bombing begin, he just doesn't know it yet.
160hp, I'll remember that.
