I put about 500 miles a day on my new laramie...and hasn't had a LICK of trouble yet...the seats are comfortable, the engine TWICE as quiet as the powerstroke I started out with (company trucks), and it SMOKES all over the duramax and powerstrokes that have come up against me on the street...
if you can pick one up with EP pricing at your dealership, I say go for it!

Forgive me for being transparent. Whether its a 1st,2nd or 3rd generation these are dodge trucks. Need I say more. Cummins is the ONLY reason I buy a dodge. I have a honda accord and toyota pick up. One has 200,00 and the other a little over 100,000. You know how many things I have fixed or replaced? NOTHING except a timing belt as required every 90,000. We wonder why people buy overseas. Well, I want quality which I find in cummins but not dodge. Dodge doesnt seem to care. IMHO

I believe that I read that the fuel pump in the tank is no more reliable than the Gen 2 LP's. Also, I believe I read that the IP's are not as reliable as the VP44's and about 2x expensive to replace.
What is the mileage on the 06 vs Gen 2's?
I certainly like the HP & torque of the newer trucks, 4" exhaust and other mods that many Gen 2's added at extra cost. Of course, the noise of a Gen 2 is a feature most here realy like. It is a TRULY MANLY sound, kinda like a 454 without a muffler.
My truck makes enough torque to do what I need, so I am with the guys that will keep their trucks a long time.

truck
Let's look at the real reason we buy new, because they don't last forever.I'am glad to see people get new things, trucks etc.The main reason I brought a dodge is cause of the cummins diesel. Now if chev, ford put a cummins diesel in there trucks they would put dodge out of business.

Here's Why Not
1) Hold your right arm out with the thumb sticking up...
2) Close your left eye...
3) Cover the front of the truck with your thumb as you look at the rest of the truck with your open eye...
See it yet?
Hint: It's an older model Ford F150 style body with a Dodge styled front end.

My vote is to keep the older truck. You have to fix all the same issues on the new truck to get it to work right. The new truck still has the same short comings are the older one- tranny is nearly the same, the torque converter is sloppy, the tires are awful. The box is smaller than the older truck (i.e. mega cab). I personally don't like the new interior. The stock stereo has to go. The DVD option is nice but anybody can get that installed. The VP thingy is getting old though.

First I've heard of something being LESS reliable than a VP-44?!
