Why remove the silencer ring?

Re:Why remove the silencer ring?
Yup.... Chrysler requested Cummins to install the silencer ring on those motors so the engine noise would be more refined.... they didn't want folks squawking about excessive turbo whine.

Re:Why remove the silencer ring?
Ultimately, I think it is user choice. If ya don't feel comfortable with the ring out, then go for it. And vice versa. I think Jack is a good example of how it will effect the bearings. 100k n' no probs yet... I drove ranch tractors for years with turbos n' I can't remember one instance where I or any fellow ranchers had any problems with them. My father has run 18 wheels for 30+ yrz n' hasn't had one go on him as long as he can remember either. Just my two cents worth. Again, I think its what your comfortable with. ;D My wife hates it (the whine)...guess that is why whe is drivin' my 97 shorty gasser n' not the other way around.

Our gas compressor engines run turbo-chargers ranging from little Air-Research TO-3s to the ABB RB-181s on our 4700 HP Cat G-3616's. Haven't seen a silencer ring in one of them yet. ;D ;D ;D

Jet engines won't run with inlet air traveling faster than mach 1. The ones without the cones use other inlet geometry to achieve the same effect.<br>
