Why injectors?

I am looking to add new injectors to my CTD. What do the new injectors do the original one don't? Do they just dump more fuel, or is it the way they deliver the fuel? Any ideas on which injectors to buy which would help me tow my 5th (13k lbs)

Thanks

-Pete

They atomize the fuel better so it's more of a complete burn, and they add more fuel. A set of Mach 1.5 EDM's or 275s would be the max I would run on your stock tranny.

The EDMs are the way to go if you are towing. From what everyone tells me they burn cleaner when under a load. If you don't plan or want to upgrade the turbo then the Mach 1.5s are as big as you will want to go for towing. That will be as much injector as you stock turbo will be able to handle.
I'm doing the same thing I've got a set of Don Ms Mach 1.5s on order.

As far as the tranny goes I am going to have an ATS transmission installed in the next month. I just ran into a guy this weekend who ruined his transmission pulling a 14k lbs 5th (2000 2500 with a power chip).

The HO responds much better to injectors than the SO, but my truck is set up to tow our 13,500 lb 5th wheel and looks pretty similar engine-wise to what you're considering. You can see in my signature the BHP/torque with an EZ and DD2 injectors. Maximum preturbo EGT when towing so far is 1225 degF - the injectors went in over the winter, so we'll see what happens this summer!!

If I had it to do over, I'd go with the EDM-type injectors (less smoke and supposedly less EGT for the same BHP/torque) as well as the Diesel Dynamics TTPM box in place of the Edge EZ. The EZ's timing advance, when used in combination with larger injectors, is (IMHO) a little radical for the higher compression HO engine when towing. It should be fine with your SO.
