I ran a set of D-rated ones for a while. Had 2 problems. 1-they're not E-rated, and I haven't seen very many E-rated 265's. 2- If I didn't keep the tires at max pressure, they'd rub together. They actually rubbed a ring on each tire where they touched. Took them off and put 235/85's on. I hear that 255's will not rub. Makes sense since they are a centimeter narrower than 265's

Rodger that, when the 255's are first installed they appere to have the needed room, but after they set a night they are touching. If you have a "spacer phobia", they I would stay with the 235-85-16's.

I believe the cutoff is 99 and that anything after that can fit 255/85 with no problem. Easy rule of thumb if your truck came with 215's you're limited to 235's if it came with 235's you're limited to 255's. I've got 255 BFG MT's on my dually and they don't touch but they are a load range D tire.

I run 265/75's on an '02 dually. Load range "E". There's a bit more than an inch of clearance, which is fine, as long as you don't severely deflate them. I run them loaded and unloaded, on the road and off.
There are some sectional differences between brands of tires; mine are Michelins.
