I would not mess with the J-Hook. Really unnecessary, IMO. You have the EZ, so lock your wastegate full closed and leave it.... you won't over boost it. Max on an HY-35 is 32-35 psi.

Exactly what RJ said......don't waste your money on the J-hook. Go grab a $4.00 turnbuckle from your local hardware store and crank that bad boy shut!

If your thinking about your 01... need to beef up tranny before adding that kind of power. But to answer.... the TST stacked on a Smarty is my favorite. Adds 150 hp +/- to an auto CTD, with great low end response..

I am glad this topic came up. My friend has an 01 with a Van Aaken Box but he bought it from a guy with a manual so not j-hook was supplied. He has asked about a j-hook but would love a $4.00 (cheaper than J-hook) turnbuckle. Could I have some more info on that please?

Thanks.

Man. tranny trucks do not need a J hook or turnbuckle. We use a boost elbow to control the waste gate. You can get them from a couple of the online diesel sites or off of Ebay.

No I am sorry he has a Auto and bought the chip off a guy with a manual, so he needs a turnbuckle/j-hook. Thats what I need info on.

Several different folks sell the J-hook which is adjustable, the turnbuckle is just a hardware store turnbuckle with hooks on each end I believe, but someone should chime in shortly with details like the size of the turnbuckle, and any other hardware we may need (can you tell I need one for my auto as well)

The way it shows in that picture is pretty much the way it should look. The only problem with trying to do it that way is, unless you take the turbo off, you better have some TINY hands to be able to get that thing in there and tightened down.

I couldn't squeeze my big gorilla paws in there, so I got 2 turn buckles ( sorry guys I don't remember the size off the top of my head ) and hooked them together and attached it to the alternator bracket. Works great and cost me less than $10.00!!

Also... need either turn buckle with lock nuts, or just saftey wire it so it can't vibrate loose, cause it will!
My second one stayed in place till I upgraded turbos!

Need pics man, do you have any pics with your dual turnbuckle setup? I'd rather not have to take off my turbo to do the job, but when looking in there, it is a pretty tight fit back by the wastegate! I'm sure if I looked at it I could figure it out, but I'm stuck in an office for now.

....and the counterpoint. The picture way is EASY and there is plenty of room to do the install. You will have to slightly widen one of the hooks for a correct fit on the bracket. I also used some "mechanics wire" around the TB and wastegate rod just to keep it from falling if it were to work it's way loose. Been on the truck for years with no probs.
