Who has the best tranny?

Not to start a war here.... but i am needing to know who builds the best dodge race trannys. I will be sitting at approx 700HP and dragging it. Opinions?

Your best bet might be to call DTT and ATS, then judge for yourself. What I mean is that one may have features that the other doesn't. You have to decide which are more important to you, then go with the one you want based on what's available. I've had an ATS tranny back when I owned an auto. I was happy with it.

I never owned a DTT.

I think all the builders are able to build a tranny to hold about 450-500 hp if it is built right. Above that it really narrows down. There are a lot of issues beyond converter and valvebody when you get over 550hp and there is not a cheap way to get by it. When you strenthen one part another is your weak link. Also if you are gonna race there is a big difference in billet shafts, although they cost close to the same. I have had my tranny out of my truck 5 times and I m still not done with it. Pm me if you want my thoughts on some more info. Also your converter needs will depend on how you drive on the street. I have a converter right now that is so tight that it only drops 100 rpm under lockup at full throttle but it is slow to spool if you dont build boost from the get go. Anyways I would do what everyone else says and call the builders and try to get what their thoughts are on the power you are after. Tim

Silverdodge: Can you provide torque curves (estimated) and a usage profile for your truck with the intended mods? I think that any tranny builder would need to know that before he can put something together for you. I feel that if you go to extremes like that you'll find that the tranny builder will have to be involved in some of your decisions.
I'm nowhere near your intended power level, but I can only say good things about DTT. Had only minimal contact to ATS so I can't comment on their trannies.

My advice would be to get the 700 HP first and then pick a vendor that can deal with or has had experience with that kind of power before.

Is it safe in here?

Man what a tough question, and you are gonna get a lot of answers. I have a Goerend Brothers tranny just like TiminVa, and I love mine. Check them out at www.gbtransmissions.com And good luck gettin to 700 H.P.

So you planning on doing this with another truck or with your ETH with the 37" tires?

I talked to Dave about it a couple months ago. He offerred me a deal I almost couldn't refuse to swap him for the one I have now.
I'm having problems enough getting my turbo to spool without leaving a nasty black cloud every time. Gotta roll into it real easy.

Might have to wait for twins before I do something like Dave's new TC. It's running so good right now I'm afraid to mess with it....

Isn't your truck a manual? If so do you have a donor truck you are going to use to change it over to auto.

Being lifted with large tires will eat some time. What gear ratio are you running?

Opie, Your enhanced injectors are in almost finished. I bet they leave here today.

SD,

Yeah ditch the 37" tires. Not good to race those.
700 HP is not easy without Nitrous, another additive or a P pump.

Thanks Don,

If things go right I may be able to join the club with Fulmer and Doug by the end of Summer. Membership is kind of tough to get into with a Vp44 24 valve with over 100k on it, but then again IMHO I am associated with the very best that the diesel performance business has to offer.

yeah opie my truck is a 6 speed right now... but i have a donor lined up and will be starting next week on swapping everything over. I am running the stock 3.55s right now. Im not sure what tire size i am going to go with for dragging (i have a spare set of BFG 35's AT's) so i dont know what gears to go with yet.

Don - i will be looking for something different for my squirt guns...... and maybe a little bit of the funny stuff too!!
