White smoke

White smoke
now that it has finally warmed up I got under the hood again & started "fixing" things vacuum pump was dripping , intake plate was less than finger tight & the throttle ball ends were nearly worn off the throttle link & I have only been getting 3/4 throttle so I fixed all that & decided to adjust the pump while I was at it ,
it is an 89 CTD ETA
I have turned in the screw on the back of the rotory pump 1 turn ,not 2 as suggested , partially due to difficulty in removing the steel band tack welded to it!!
I then made a thinner washer to go below the diaphragm & rotated the diaphragm 45* clockwise.
I test drove it & can make everything in the rear view disappear in a cloud of black.
I then went in & turned the star wheel up 3 turns to match the fuel delivery rate to the boost better & it now pushes a haze of black instead of clouds
I also adjusted the smoke screw out 1.5 turns & have less smoke with no boost
All is well & it has never run this well with this much power but starting cold it smokes white heavily for approx 1 minute until it starts to warm up
Suggestions ?
Thanks

Re:White smoke
Psycho...It looks like you got it dialed in...Don't worry about the white smoke at start-up..This is normal and is un-burned fuel because the engine is cold, as you indicated after your engine gets warmed up it goes away.

Steve

Re:White smoke
cool thanks Steve
just had me worried a bit due to it never doing it before until well below freezing , it is still droppingcyls a bit when cold so I may have the smoke screw a little too lean yet
Not perfect but learning fast !
