Where to find gauges
Hey guys love the web site. Learned alot so far reading every ones posts!! Now it is my turn to ask a question..
I was told that a boost gauge would be good to have before a fuel pressure gauge?? Any thought?? Where is the best place to look for something like these?? Since I am going to do both, its just a matter of time and money. Does it matter on brands, reliability?? I consider myself mechanically inclined, but would prefer an all inclusive kit if possible.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The best place for gages I think is SUMMIT RACING they have a complete line and you should be able to find what you need. I think I would go for the boost, and pyrometer (EGT) gages. Hell if the fuel pressure goes out, your going to know.

Re:Where to find gauges
If you start the bomb the pyro is #1 without a dought. Don't leave home without it. If I didn't install the pyro before I did the bomb I know I would have melted something. The pyro will help you "tune" your fuel to the compromise between power and driveability. I also have the boost which helps me figure if my changes added any.

Re:Where to find gauges
Bought my gauges and gauge pod from Geno's Garage. Had everything in stock and good price. If you have some mechanical knowledge, following the instructions for install was fairly easy. People here also have good installation advice once you know which exactly which gauges and pods you want to use.

There's more than one horror story of members who had been driving their trucks with no apparent symptoms and attended a meet when someone plugged a fuel pressure gauge in and found it was pulling vacuum.
It will surely shorten the life of your injection pump.![Wink](https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)

Re:Where to find gauges
Fuel Pressure and Pyro are a must if your getting gauges. Both will save you from haveing to spend major $$ on engine damage or a dead VP44. The problem is that if the fuel pressure goes out, you're going to know, but you may know by having a dead injection pump. Could have saved at least $1,000 by putting in a $120 f.p. gauge. Boost is fun to watch, i'd say it's not really necessary if you had to pick just 2 gauges to have.
